British Air from PDX to Jo'berg.
South African Air Jo'berg to Windhoek.
The way home was a little simpler, one less step. But we still had to go to the police station and check in.
Right, this was my take as well, even though we did not overnight. From talking with the captain at the police station it sure sounded to me like they get their pound of flesh regardless.

Hey thank you! Best I can tell there is no such thing as "check through". When we boarded in Portland the bag tags all said "WDH" but that still obligates you to give your friends in Jo'berg their cut. The RSA permit is a "transit permit". If there's another way I'm all ears.
The last hunts
Given as long as this is getting I am going to cover the oryx since that was a lot of fun. There is a wildebeest hunt too but I had no intention of writing a novel here, so we will move onto Oryx.
We take a brief break, but the kids are very tired and we will split up. Papa...
Part 5 – A very good day
Coming down from the excitement of the evening prior, but I am still up early. We left the kudu hunt a bit puzzled the day before. There are a TON of kudu bulls on that place but they are way up high and we were sitting down low, and have proven to ourselves now twice...
Part 4, Regrouping or, a New Hope in the evening
We break. Back into the truck. I try to get the kid to nap but he’s pretty bummed. I say we might be able to get him on a hunt, but we can’t do that chasing kudu. I wish I would have gotten out of the truck at the store in Dordabis since I love...
Part 3 – The Koppies
The morning of the third day. The family will head to Erindi game preserve and I will stay to hunt. At least that was the plan. Bubba is beside himself that he is going with the ladies and Papa instead of staying to hunt. I hate to tell him he can’t hunt, but we talk about...
The driver of the truck is Mathus, the other PH. He is out of the truck and speaking urgently with Jacques in Afrikaans.
“Hartebeest?” Jaq asks
They do this kind of crazy thing while speaking. All of them speak 3-4 languages, so things usually start in Afrikaans, but then every 6-7th word will...
Part 2: Opening day
Morning comes early. We have a good breakfast. Since Big Sister came out the night before it’s bubba’s turn. He is excited almost beyond words. We also decide Papa will be up first, and since we just zeroed my rifle, he can just use my rifle on this first hunt, even though...
Part 1: Anticipation
We had discussed it before. Many times. That someday we would do an African trip and a hunt and what we would hunt and how and where. I started thinking about it but Dad ran out of time and for many years I did not think of it again. Around 2019 I stumbled onto stories of...
A few quick questions for you veterans.
I am planning a NZ hunt likely for winter 2016 time frame. yes this is a long way out. What I am looking for is a free range hunt for fallow deer and red stag. perhaps sika deer too but that would be a lower priority. Top goals would be to harvest a...
