WANTED: African Experience for the Next Book

You would be hunting in the same area as Robert Ruark, Wally Johnson, Harry Manners and many more. We have actually found the ruins of a old camp that was named Camp Ruark. The book A Baron in Africa is about this this area when it was hunted by Safarilandia. If you are interested send me an...

WANTED: African Experience for the Next Book

I can get you a hippo in Mozambique with the bow. But unfortunately the trophy is not exportable at this point. No high fences. True wild Africa. We even hunted a crocodile with the bow last year. But that is very difficult and will need 21 days (is exportable). But the hippo is doable in...

    Bullets for Leopard

I just recently shot a problem leopard on my farm. This was the first leopard that i shot and it dropped stone dead under the tree so no charge resulted. I used my 8x68s with 210gr RWS bullets. When the bullet struck the cat, slightly quartering towards me, on the tip of the shoulder the blood...

    African Rhino poaching crisis

Most of the arrested persons have already been let out of bail, the smallest amount being 5000 rand. This is ridiculous because they make so much from rhino horn that they can pay the bail easily so they will keep doing it, and even if they get arrested 50 times they still make a profit from...

9.3x62 or 300 Weatherby for African Safari

I agree with Jose, but it all depends on where you are are hunting. In my opinion the 9.3x62 is a bushveld calibre and the 300 is more of a kalahari-freestate calibre. So i would say if you are hunting bushveld take the 9.3x62 because it is a slow heavy bullet and perfect if you have some bush...

    binoculars with rangefinder

I agree with kelly, i have never had a good bushnell product myself. I own the leica binos with rf and am very very happy with them. They are far better than the zeiss ones which i also tried. I can recommend the leica ones, yes the price is a bit hectic but it is well worth it for the quality...

    Your opinion on "canned" hunts.

Owen. If canned is hunting game squashed into a small enclosure then most bowhunting outfitters out there are selling canned hunts. Many bowhunting outfitters, not all and i dont want to offend anyone, are hunting in +/- 600ha areas around waterholes. These hunts are also guaranteed so are they...

    Biggest Lion in Africa

Cleathorn i fully agree with you. I personally think that closing hunting if canned lions was a mistake. If you look at it in a neutral perspective canned lions saved the wild lion population, because the world demand could be covered which if it had to be covered by the natural population they...

    Best Broadhead???

I have had best performance with slick tricks. The cut big holes and are extremely sharp. I have used one slick trick broadhead with the same blades on 2 impala, 1 warthog 2 blesbuck and a blue wildebeest and the thing is still sharp enough to shoot another animal.

Nyala or Kudu - Which is your favourite?

I would go with neither, and say that the Bushbuck is the nicest of them... To me the bushbuck is a tough hunt, can be dangerous and it is just such a beautiful animal. Dont get me wrong, Kudu and nyala are both very nice too and i have hunted some nice kudu trophies (not had the chance to hunt...

    Waterbuck Tanned Skin

I also tanned my waterbuck back skin, and it looks really nice. I wasnt expecting it to look so good, because of its oily nature, but it is very nice. I have it next to my bed and its the first thing i put my feet on in the morning when i wake up.

Baboon as Leopard Bait, Yes or No?

In my area in the Waterberg there is an abundance of baboon, and i shoot them daily because they come into the garden and attack the workers and dogs, so they have become a real pest. I myself have had a couple of close calls with wounded baboons, where i have shot them at point blank with a 9mm...

    Judging Zebra

I have to shoot some zebra on our land in SA, because we have to many stallions that are fighting with each other, and reproducing so much that the carrying capacity of the land has been reeched. Therefore I want to shoot out some stallions. I am having a hard time determining sex in the bush...

Which Rifle Scope to Use with Big Bore Calibers?

I think Zeiss is one of your best options. But I would say for the larger calibers no scope would be an option too.

What makes a "good" Professional Hunter?

Safari Chick I dont think that the cell phones are a real problem in Africa, because most places being hunted do not have cell reception anyway, so it will not ring at an inappropriate time. For the rest of the points, I think they are very valid, and appreciate this thread being opened.
