Things to Consider for the Cost of your Safari?!?!

Spousal Tax gets expensive. Especially when you get ready to talk about booking the return hunt........

Actually, That wasn't a very cold day at all. About 10*F above zero. Just about right for working outdoors in the winter.

SOUTH AFRICA: Great Time Lousy PH

I fully intend to go back. Although I'm looking at the East Cape next trip as I'll bring the Wife along with her camera. As for my lousy PH, I realize he was an exception. Even in the camp I was at the other PHs there were awesome and far and above more professional than the one I was stuck...

SOUTH AFRICA: Great Time Lousy PH

I just returned from my first Safari. I had a great time and collected some nice trophies as well. The only hang up was a lousy PH. He spent more time on his cell phone conducting business for his game breeding operation than he did hunting with me. He was always late to get moving in the...

    Almost there......

I'm down to single digit days before I'm wheels up on the way to my first safari. I got the Pelican cut and loaded last night. The electric knife trick worked pretty well.

    Packing Clarification

Nothing but Delta in and out of JoBerg so it looks like ammo can just get locked up inside a hard case in checked luggage. Thanks for the advice.
  14. Frozen6bt

    Packing Clarification

OK, So it sounds like SAA requires a separate (not just a separate box inside checked baggage) locked box for ammo not Delta. If that's the case, I'm good to go. 22 days and change to go......

    Packing Clarification

Yes. Flying on Delta. I don't think it's Delta's requirement on the return trip to have ammo in a separate locked case. I think it's a SAP requirement.

    Packing Clarification

I think i have it figured out but I want to clarify..... ATL to JNB Rifle goes in the pelican case with NON-TSA locks. Ammo goes in it's own cardboard box inside a hard case (with TSA-LOCK ) inside my checked Baggage (with TSA-LOCK. JNB to ATL Rifle goes in the pelican case with NON-TSA locks...

    30-06 ammunition recommendation

I kept an eye out for the Federal trophy bonded as well and have no doubt they would have worked just as well as the Barnes I picked up. About the same price too IIRC. I'll have to look into the Buffalo bores. They might be a good round to keep an opertunistic eye out for.

    30-06 ammunition recommendation

Charlie- FWIW, this first timer is booked for a PG hunt at the end of July this year. Gonna take my trusty Remington 700 in 30-06 loaded with the Barnes VOR-TX in 180gr. Everything I can come up with says it's an excellent bullet and will do fine. And the leftovers are destined for Alaskan...

No worries on the hijack. I'm no fan of BHO and him advancing te UN agenda in the US really chaps me too. Of course I hadn't thought about it effecting firearm transport to foreign countries....

Rifle details for Letter of invitation.

Thanks James. I've been reading on the PHASA and SAPS pages but hadn't run across the answer yet. Filling out the forms won't be an issue. Just want to make sure that if I end up changing scopes before leaving I don't get hung up somewhere.

Rifle details for Letter of invitation.

Ok, So I know that I have to provide Make, Model, S/N on the rifle that I'm taking to the RSA and I know that my .338 BAR isn't legal there. No problem, I have a model 700 30-06 that'll do just fine for PG. Question is, the Outfitter wants the scope details. Not a problem, I know what it is...
