Hi S-3. I’ve sent you a Private message. I don’t stay far from them and visited on Wednesday to drop off an old pair of Vellies for a resole.
They are under new ownership with new energy.
Anything you’d like to know? I grew up with Swakop Vellies on my feet.
Excellent. I’ll check them out. Since posting my gunsmith suggested EAW mounts as well. Both are available locally so when we get closer to the time, I’ll way up the options.
Managed to get hold of a Leupold VX-6 2-12. A bit on the high end at 12x but the 2-9x range should work well for my...
Hi @IvW
Won’t the bases get in the way, or are they different to the Warne setup for k98 actions? I find that the Warne mounts slightly obscure my iron sight on my .308.
Thanks @Rell. My winchesters are topped with Warne mounts and rings and I did the same for the Mauser with QD to access the open sight. I want to do something similar for the BRNOs since the have that cool pop-up feature.
Those are the ones. A small button housed in an indent on the right of the rear action.
That’s great news, thanks @baxterb, I was afraid I’d have to choose between the QD option or peep sight.
Looking forward to the build!
Good day all.
I've recently acquired a BRNO ZKK602 action after unsuccessfully trying to source a pre '64 action for an upcoming .375 H&H build.
It is a later version without the pop-up peep sight and in a very good condition.
Not long after I managed to secure a 1972 pop up ZKK600 action...
Hi Okkie. I've imported quite a few Eberlestock goodies in the past, my latest, their RASR shooting rest and a Bandit Backpack arrived last week. The quality and functionality of their packs are outstanding.
Most shippers are hesitant to move anything with the word gun or shooting printed on...
I use my Rudy Project Rydons. Nice wrap-around shape and lens options for any situation. They also offer an insert for optical lenses behind the coloured lenses, but I prefer to pair them with contacts. They are my go-to shooting/motorcycling/hiking glasses.
Hi Dobber. What did you like about the picture you mention?
I’m generally drawn to authenticity or pics with a story behind them. Even though I’m a South African / Namibian meat hunter, I love classic Safari pics. I guess I’m an old man at heart.
Imagine what your audience would like.

A child's birthday party turned into social media hysterics after a good citizen saw a goat tied to a tree in a public park. She went to Facebook without the facts.
I was in hysterics when I read this.

Ridgewalker , I never turn down a chance to shoot. @DM, having the gun measured at the range is part of the deal. I went back three times to check out the gun before I finally purchased it, and it was by far the best fitting gun out of the 5 I tried. The Browning was very nice too, but the SPiii...
Thanks Ridegwalker. I took the leap and bought the Silver Pigeon iii, 30" a few weeks ago just before I left for the holidays an extended business trip in Namibia. It was a perfect fit. I'll sort out the tedious licensing process when I get back to South Africa in February.
You're a good man...
And done. I bought the SPiii today. I nearly backed out of buying anything after a salesman tried to sell me a Browning S1 B725 instead. After much consideration the emotional decision remained with the Italian lass. Thanks for the help, guys.
That's good to hear.
I'll take the drive over in a week and see if sense prevails.
Buy both? I can really motivate for myself why it's a good idea, but I fear for the cardiovascular health of the chap at the firearms registery if I were to submit two applications for essentially the same gun...
Thanks Bert. That's exactly what I'm trying to establish.
If the metal parts are all the same in terms of function and durability, the often-silenced, sensible voice in my brain tells me to be a little more frugal and have some money left over for another purchase or hunt. But I don't really...
Thanks for that, Brickburn. This definitely helps to see the chart.
Perhaps it was the recoil pad's size and shape that made it mount differently. Or maybe I thought it "should" feel better because it's double the price? Or would the difference between 28" and 30" have been that discernible...
Hi all.
I am currently in the market for a new O/U shotgun for clays and wing shooting and have narrowed my search down to the Beretta Silver Pigeon series.
When I set off to gun shop to check out, I was under the impression that the SPi would be all I ever needed, until I lay my eyes on the...
This is long, long overdue. I joined this forum a few years ago and pretty much sat quietly in the corner, just tuning in to the conversations.
The wealth of experience, on this forum, as well as the banter keeps me coming back for more. I may even have snuck in a post or two over the years...
Good day Houston. I have grown up with the Namibian "Swakopmunder" Vellies and still wear them on a daily basis. I believe that they've struck a chord with fashionistas on your side of the pond as well and were originally imported by Brother Vellies, who have since pursued other suppliers for...
Gentlemen, thank you very much.
Every one of you have given me a lot of food for thought and certainly more than enough to keep me busy while I wait to unravel all the red tape required to bring the guns home.
Two hunts have already been pencilled into the diary and hopefully by some...
Thank you very much for the advise and helping me to narrow down my choices.
With regards to meat damage, both the .270 and .300WM have a reputation for spoiling meat.
Some seem to lay the blame at the feet of hydrostatic shock caused by a speeding bullet, while others point a finger at...
Overanalysing, moi?
Diamondhitch, I think you've nailed the summary of the situation. But hey, since the selection affords me the luxury of being pedantic, I'd like to fine tune my choices to best suit the quarry.
Good day all.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on ammunition for the above mentioned calibers since I am taking over a few rifles from my father.
He has stopped hunting a few years ago and for that matter was was never really an avid hunter. He only did so begrudgingly to provide...
If I may... Land Cruiser fanatic
Mine's the beige HZ79, 4.2l normally-aspirated diesel. You'll see quite a few of these in Southern Africa.
The aluminium canopy is also a common sight in these parts, geared for over-landing with everything you need to circumnavigate the continent.
