Sue thank you for sharing this video. It was good to see that they took the time to positively explain where the hunted meat goes after the animal is down.
I like the detail in your writeup, also very interesting information on Ethiopia. Not very many hunters get the opportunity to hunt there. Looking forward to the rest of your report.
Congratz! AH is a great reference whether it is your 1st or 30th safari. Your smile conveys your happiness from the hunt. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us.
Boy is that a broad subject to approach. Design and proper fit is one that enhances the rifle and the experience of shoot it in either a very good or this sucks manner.
several decisions would need to be laid out as requirements for what you are looking for.
What are you using for sighting...
That is a very well done and like the tasteful engraving! While stationed in Germany I wandered into more than a few small firearms shops and was impressed with the quality craftsmanship. Was fortunate enough to shoot at several German ranges and was blessed to get the opportunity to shoot...
This is a very good price for the current market! If i didn't already have 3 9.3's i would be trying to work a deal. I have done business with Jamie and was completely happy with our transaction.
You have a wonderful trophy room, man cave, reading room, quite place to just sit and remember each and every hunt etc! Very impressive. Really enjoying watching the progress on the construction.
If you are looking for classic africa, it was iron sights. My suggestion is have him do the build in the classic manner for irons. Mount a scope with QR rings, get or have made a leather cheek riser and shoot it. If you need irons take the scope and cheek riser off and shoot irons. I do that...
@Red Leg Like you I have never shot a scope with all the extra LPVO tactical reticles that are currently being used. I like a simple German 4 kinda hunting reticle, of a 1 or 2 moa red dot. I will be interested in @gsdog1 take on the usability of this NF scope.
An older post but an interesting one. Not sure where you will get drawn for elk 4 times in a row. and the only way you will get 4 elk hunts for 20K is a self guided DYI option. Most guided quality elk hunts at 7Kish and a elk shoulder mount is 1250-1750 depending on the taxidermist.
For the...
I use basically the same taper expander that I use for the 400 whelen than the 416 wsm sizing die takes it up the last little bit. My rifle is built on a WSM win70 action.
175gr at 2695fps for 2823FTLBS energy. (my loads developed to shot to the barrels regulation)
It also shoot the 140gr S&B factory very well, but I didn't chrono those rounds.
Will have to measure the barrels to confirm that they are 25in.
It would work on moose and eland under 150M, but there...
I have been using the 300 WSM as my base case and it seems to work well. Haven't tried the 325's.
Looking forward to seeing how your project turns out.
@Red Leg I had the same red dot question so I looked at NF Reticle breakout and the small dot in the center is 0.2 mil and the halo circle is 2-4 mil depending on magnification. So it should be right in the 1 moa dot size but it didn't say 0.2mil at what magnification. Hopefully @gsdog1 can...
What brand is your drilling?
The 7x65 is a nice round. It was also one of the easiest loads to develop with 175gr bullets of any double I have ever worked with.
That area through Namibia has some BIG cats. Those honey badgers and brown hyenas seem to also like to visit the leopard baits. If we could bring the brown hyenas back I would have taken one in 2021.
Have a great trip
Good luck charlie, I was guessing that you were looking a spots again. You could surprise us as the honey badgers will also love that pre-bait your outfitter is hanging. You hunting in the same place as last time?
It is always interesting a view on full length stocks. They were a carry over from the muzzloader area where the wood was in place to protect the barrel from damage vs the wood.
I have always loved the look of the full length stocks, have one in 9.3x62 and 300WM. I would take a exhibition...
Congratulations! Taking a old injured bull is the right way to start your hunt.
Cows are a special kinda dangerous game. They will keep you on your toes and wondering what you did in a past life to offend them.
@Doug Hamilton I did over simplify the answer. I started to write a long dissertation on the + and - of reloading but figured that folks wouldn't want to read a short book. The man that taught me to reload for rifle and pistol was a bench rest shooter and instilled a level of detail in me that...
I will put is simply If you have to ask if you should reload for DG then you should most likely use factory ammo on DG hunts until you have enough experience to be a %100 confident in your hand loads.
It is a 275AI or 7x57AI based on what was put on the barrel.
Graf and sons has a set of fl dies for the AI in stock.

Well you have started the fun of restocking a rifle.
The ebony question is easy. just order a 2x2x12 turning blank from Woodcraft.

On a boyds I have just unscrewed the front sling...
I have used devcon plasticsteel for jobs like this. The threaded rod REALLY helps make sure the whole endeavor setup with the best adhesion. You might want to just run it through a die and put some threads on that.
I wasn't suggesting building off a older single shot, just mentioned them as they are what I have experience shooting 40/65 rounds in.
If you are just looking for something interesting to build either will fit in both bolt actions you mentioned.
If you are looking for a 40 cal to be built off...
Having shot thousands of both 45/70 and 40/65 rounds in sharps, rolling blocks, and ballards single shots My short answer is that there are much better rounds to use. Your 404 would be a much wiser choice.
Most of the 40/65's have a .408 bore so appropriate DG bullets would be difficult to...
All Army Navy guns I have ever seen are well made working man's rifles. I really like the fiddle back in the stock on your double. Enjoy it and look forward to reading the first hunt report where you get her back into the bush.
We have been in a down swing of the supply channel and events in the world. a little over a year ago all you could basically find was 223 and 9mm. There was very little of anything else on the shelves at the big suppliers and or LGS's. You can now walk into a store and buy most of the common...
