    Red stag SCI vs CIC

Thank you! In Suffolk about a mile from my home….. I am quite fortunate!! I’ve managed the ground for 10 years now, some fantastic animals have come from here. Many medals but this is the best so far 10 years in the making.

    Red stag SCI vs CIC

Just back from being measured yesterday, my largest wild U.K. stag on my own ground taken this rut, a beautiful beast, circa 8-9 years old. Larder weight 190kg, trophy weight 8.76kg, CIC 204.35 high silver. Shot approximately 50m from where @UKHunter took his stag above. Been some nice beasts...

    First .375H&H, what to avoid?

Strongly disagree, it effectively kills effectively everything, smaller animals display less meat damage, larger die decisively, what more do you want? I’ve used various .375’s over the years for everything from rabbits (granted not much left) through muntjac, no more, probably less, meat damage...

    First .375H&H, what to avoid?

I’ve never understood quite why this gets blamed on the rifle, appreciate the heat of the moment wanting to trust your equipment, especially in DG situations, but also ensuring the shooter does their part and doesn’t “short cycle” as you say.

sako 85 in the U.K. available with or without optics, and next to no prior use! Problem solved.

    Internal flights which carry firearms!

I could have sworn I’d found something on their pages saying it was not possible, but I see you appear correct! Are they directly linked to SAA in terms of any imminent closure of business?

    Internal flights which carry firearms!

So, currently planning a trip to SA for next year. I know things are up in the air with regards SAA but forgetting that for now, I’m really struggling with how to get from one any of the major international airports to East London aside from hiring a car and embarking on a tiring 8+ hr drive...

Not sure if this helps at all but I also live in the next village to 2 US Airforce bases, I dont know if it would be possible to maybe get a friend in the service to have it shipped that way?

Chapuis .375 Double Rifle For Sale

If you’re serious I will find out what the logistics are of exporting it. I’ve asked the question of a gun dealer this end of things who I know exports regularly to get an idea of costs etc. I’ll report back when I hear from them

Chapuis .375 Double Rifle For Sale

Chapuis .375 belted magnum with leupold 1.25-4x20 scope and swing off mounts. This rifle shoots a 1 inch group at its regulated range of 60yd with factory federal 300gr so I reckon with homeloads it would be a tackdriver. Beautiful wood in fantastic condition, just can’t see it getting the use...

    My trio of double rifles

Thank you! Not sure why the title got changed, I had called it “my trio of doubles” the “rifle” bit got added by some higher power.... a man could only dream from 3 double rifles!! I’ll settle for just the one for now!

    Trophies Finally Home

Well, 13 months on from my trip to Namibia my trophies finally made it back to England, a few mixed feelings along the way, I have to say I’m not impressed with the taxidermy companies prep work if I’m being honest! In the package were mine and a friends trophies, in total 3 Oryx, 2 Springbok...

Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

Well, it’s taken a while to get round to this; but a change of ammo from federal 270gr to 300gr powershok seems to have had the desired affect, 4 shots, 1 inch, at the regulated distance of 60m off sticks. Now, anyone with experience of chapuis doubles know why one of my ejectors has decided...

Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

This makes sense, there becomes a partnership between shooter and rifle, but there has to be a sterile baseline to work from I would imagine, which in reality will be the point at which the rifle is regulated as after that point there will be too many variables to take into account.....

Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

Hi, yes, read through them with interest, but as the regulator says, (and as demonstrated by their test targets) they don't notice any discernible difference..... I guess there may be a difference in POI dependant on the style of shooting no different than if zeroing a BA rifle off bipod for...

Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

I was always of the understanding that muzzle flip and recoil occurred after the bullet had left the barrel (in real terms where you as the shooter reacts to it I mean), and therefor didn't actually have any tangible effect on accuracy, more the anticipation of said recoil would cause the...

Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

Well this article about the process Westley Richards undergo clearly shows the chap regulating the rifle using a front rest so it can't have too much of an adverse impact? I appreciate what you're saying about the dynamics of a double being different but I can't see how this particular detail...

Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

I'm intrigued by this, it's not the first time I've heard it said but it seems to not make a great deal of sense in reality, what difference will there be to my hand cushioning the fore end of the rifle vs a sandbag or rest? The amount of videos Ive watched of people shooting doubles using...

Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

Thanks Where abouts are you? Probably my biggest issue with developing a load is having the range access to do load tests so as unlikely as it may be I'd love to stumble magically upon that factory round which just works, I'll see how the 300gr federal work when they arrive as they were...

Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

I did a variety, a mix of shooting off shooting sticks as I would largely expect to in field conditions and from a standing position using a front sand bag as a rest, I'll see if I can find the book you refer to, it sounds da interesting, thank you. It's really no surprise I didn't get lucky...

Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

I don't think you can tell much from this target.... it looks more like I shot it with buckshot! Certainly compared to CRDS's efforts!! Damn I need to find me a round which it suits! To explain the target, the really low shots were scope adjustments and the 3 high ones were known flyers, driver...

Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

Thank you, this is (I believe) only true of their smaller calibers and possibly over and under guns, as far as I'm aware the barrels are fixed and the wedge is located in front of the crowns between the tubes but all is soldered solid. I am going to take it to a chapuis expert in the coming...

Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

Thanks, that's actually very sensible advice, and I totally agree with you, no criticism of my shooting ability at all, I totally accept I may well be a weak link here! Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

I was told it was regulated with RWS 299gr cone point, which they have since discontinued unfortunately! Realistic level of accuracy from doubles?

Ok everyone, so I've recently taken ownership of a very little used chapuis side by side in .375h&h, I took it to the range today to see how it shot and at the regulated distance of 60m (but not with the now discontinued ammo the rifle was regulated with) and I got a group after 20 or so rounds...

    True Love

I recently found a deal I couldn't pass up. 2 years ago I bought a secondhand blaser R8 in .375 in prep for a trip to Namibia. The gun served me well, but had no soul. A month or so ago I saw on a website, a chapuis side by side in .375 which came complete with leupold scope. It was priced at...
