Hi, I'm looking for some help with load data for my 9.3x64, using Somchem powder and Barnes TSX 286g bullets.
Anyone out there have any info, would really appreciate.
Thanks

Hello chaps

I know this is a post on the 9.3mm x 64, but I have two pictures of a x62 and I would like some info from some of the 9.3mm afficionados are there! A friend has acquired this ammo and I'm not sure about it - further info is needed before unleashing it on a beastie.

Its a RWS factory loading, apparently, although this is not known for certain. It is just what I have been told. Is this a 286 gr, if so what is the make of the bullet? Any other info?

Please see attached pics.
Thanks all.

Looks like RWS solid, but this bullets have no good reputation here in Germany due to a thin jacket. Recommendation is not to use on (dangerous) game.

Luederitz, thank you! This is the information I was after. Do you know what the factory stated muzzle velocity of this round is? My friend was considering using this on larger game but I will be advising him against this. If you have any other information please do let me know. Thank you.

The 9,3x62 with bullets of 286-300 grs provide a muzzle speed of approximately 2350 fps.

The 9,3x64 is capable to provide >200 fps more...

The 9,3x64 with different bullets:

180 grs Aero
250 grs Accubond
263 grs Degol

For the light bullet a propellant like N203B is recommended, the heavier work best with URP.

The Accubond is in my pov the best bullet for this caliber, nearly the ballistic of a 300 Win Mag with much more energy.

Hello,
I am writing in this thread to communicate with anyone with knowledge of locating RWS 9.3x64 brass. I can find none available in the three retail outlets I know of, so am hoping I can get in touch with anyone who happens to either have or knows of the location of some fired cases or ammunition.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Gene S.

That RWS Solid i read about in a book by a German scientist duringnww2 here in Norway . He was with the margarin raw material finders up oorth in the Arctic sea. ( Whaleers)

He wrote they use that solid for coup de grace on harpooned whales.

Oddly enough I have seen Russian Brown Bear steel case FMJ ammo in 9.3x64 apparently it’s a Russian sniper designated cartridge.

the largest hunting tour operator in Europe and hunter for Ubangi Chari, later CAR(Uganda and South Sudan), after the war until the 1970s shot on elephant and buffalo only the 9.3x64 with RWS bullets. His name was Odo Willscher and has probably shot more BIg Game with this cartridge than here in the forum all together.

It was for a Tigr rifle ,looks like a bit larger Svd pattern, can say pre .338 Lapua came for a weekend visit ,then the Lapua bought a dacha there to stay.

A buddy of me used a 9,3x64 to take the first and 3rd wild boar in modern Norwegian history. He had his custom m98 and used either 300 Swift or 320 Woodleigh. The boar weight was ca 140 kg and absorbed the 9,3 quite well.

Hi,

Just a note. With the same barrel lenght and loaded at similar pressures in a Mauser M98 or, better, a ZKK600/CZ550, the velocity difference between the 9,3x62 and 9,3x64 is not more than 100 f/s.
It is not my opinion, or belief, is because the internal volume differences between the cases.

The factory velocities published for both are standarized with: barrel lenghts of 60 cm (23,6") and 65 cm (25,6"), and at pressures of 3.900 and 4400 bar, respectively. With these standards, yes, there are 200 f/s, or more, for the 9,3x64 with all bullets weights.

Best!

There are FMJ in 9.3x64, and SP, and in a steel case (green varnish), and in brass. The bullets are only 17.5 g. and only in a copper-plated steel jacket. They wrote that the SVD-9 was tested in a combat situation with a positive result, but probably the big bosses decided that when the usual Mosin cartridges were prepared for three world wars, it was impractical to switch to a new cartridge.
Brass casings are not bad, but in the cartridges there is a Berdan primer, which is also crimped, it is a terrible hemorrhoid to remove it. And the internal volume of the cartridges is slightly smaller than that of the RWS cartridges, so the ballistic of these cartridges is closer to 9,3x62.
It is unlikely that this information will be useful, I have heard that it is now forbidden to import even primers, let alone weapons and ammunition. But...
On the main Russian guns website there is a tred "Russian Afrikaner", about the Los'-9 carbine in this caliber, there are more than 200 pages there.

I'd like to try the Norma Oryx 325 gr.
Do any of you have some load suggestion?
I have access to Reload Swiss powder (RS60/62 the more appropriate I guess), IMR 4350, trying to find again Norma powders.
Any help?

If you look up @bruce moulds he has a lot of load date on that cartridge. Unfortunately Bruce is no longer with us, his information and testing lives on.
