I have a CZ in 416 Rigby with the Euro style stock. It fits me like a glove. The sights line up perfectly and the length of pull is perfect. I'm now looking at adding a 458 Lott to the collection. I've been looking at the American stocked CZ. Having not held one in hand I'm hoping someone can tell me how much difference there is in the dimensions of these two. I haven't found one locally to try out so before ordering I figured I'd ask.

In South Africa, we only receive the CZ's with the Bavarian styled stock, which is not great in my opinion especially for a rifle that you are going to scope as,

Most people I know sand the cheek piece down to make it into an American styled stock as your line of sight lines up better with said stock and scope but, personally all the rifles I have bought I have eventually had a custom stock made which fits perfectly.

So go for the American stock, you won't be sorry, you are lucky your Bavarian stock fits you so well!

hi darren there is no way you can sand a bavarian cz style stock to the american cz style, they are totally different styles with the euro/bavarian style having a downward curving droop starting just behind the thumb grip part of the pistol grip. the american style is as said , the style you see on winchesters, remingtons etc and english big game rifles its a lot straighter and a lot nicer when firing larger calibre rifles, and as you say far better for scopes.

Hi Spike.T I may have posted in a bit of a hurry but please correct me if I am wrong the Bavarian/Euro style stock has a cheek piece and a comb? from what stock I have seen that we receive in RSA is only said stock, the importers i.e. only import such stock and after pleading and whiling to pay what ever it cost, they say that is the only stocks that will ever come into RSA as stipulated to them by CZ Europe! So the stock I am talking about is the CZ stock with the cheek piece and no drop by the heel, is that not a Bavarian/ Euro style stock and the American is a straight stock? But I agree with the scope aspect as per my previous post, I look forward to hearing your comments

Bavarian, Classic, American, German, English, Monte Carlo and Euro are all different styles. See, for example : J.G. ANSCHワTZ GmbH & Co. KG - Stocks

This is what I had to do to my Euro styled CZ .375 to get a proper cheek weld for use with a scope..

darren google the cz usa website and click on rifles ,it shows you the two different types of stock. the euro/german/bavarian are all the same hogs back down curve style with or without cheek pieces as shown on the anschutz site provided by Doc. it also shows the monte carlo stock which most weatherby rifles have a type of. the older english rifles had a shape similar to the "american" but it tended to have more drop in it , and if i pick one up i can only see the back of the bolt....most english/british/american rifles these days tend to have the straighter type stock style which CZ christened the american style.

much appreciated Spike.T

I have a CZ550 American in 9.3x62. For me it is the perfect stock. I put a Limbsaver recoil pad on it & apart from that, I would not change a thing.
I can throw it to my shoulder with my eyes closed & when I open them I am looking straight thro my Zeiss HT 2.5-10x50. It is the fastest snap shooting rifle I have ever used.
Rifle, Caliber & scope 10/10 for me.

A superb combination! I had the same setup only with a 4X Ziess Conquest, and later a Kahles 3.5-10X
I did use the pad it came with though, seemed pretty soft to me.

Good choice Ses, I love that rifle & calibre. I am very happy with my Conquests also. I don't own a Kahles at this time but I do know how good they are.
That is a scope I would be proud to put on my Winchester Model 70 Super Grade. 300Win.

I dislike the Euro stock style ... which is not very used here in Europa !!!
A straight stock is better like that on my Winch 70 SE stock 416RM) and the synthtic stock on my CZ 550 (9.3x62)

I own a 375 with the american stock,,,and just ordered a 550 in 308 with the Euro Mannlicher stock,,,Yea I've Lusted after a Mannlicher for a long time so I'll have to wait to see what the difference is between the 2 of them

Comb differences aside, the shape of the pistol grip between the two types is night & day apart. The Euro has a sharper curve to it making it quite a bit more comfortable/controllable and easy to reach the trigger. The American has a very wide, open grip making it harder to reach the trigger and maintain stability (and I have very large hands). I love the overall look of the American but for shootability I'll take the Euro any day.

Sorry folks, I should have been a bit more specific. I was comparing the 550 bigger bore caliber guns, 375 H&H and up, in my previous post.

Well,
Why I prefer a straight stock for big bore rifles ? cause they jump less than Euro stock and it's more easy to mount a scope and get the target ..
But it's just my own opinion, each chooses what suits him "the" best ..
