Trying to decide if I should use plane ramp meet and greet service in J'Burg (bow only). Gracy's service is $85 from the plane ramp to the lodging transportation.

Really just want to avoid the hassle with the bow case that I've heard about.

What do you think?

thanks, dv

I wouldn't pay it. It isn't worth it.....just my two cents.

DV,

Personally, I would not pay the extra fees for that service with a bow case. Firearms would be a different story. Hope you have a super trip!

It would have been a waste of money when i went last summer. On the other hand several times before and after they had different schemes going to extort money out of bow hunters.
If something does happen and they try to get money out of you. Ask for a reciept. This can kill it sometimes.

Are you taking a compound or recurve?

Thanks for all the replies - I'll be taking a compound bow.

happy hunting, dv

Take it in your bag! I wouldn't use the service. Are you being picked up by Afton house or your outfitter or anything?

Hi Dusty,

There's absolutely no need for you to use a meet and greet service if you're travelling with a bow. Your bow will travel with the rest of your checked-in luggage and you will collect it with the rest of your luggage at the carousel without having to declare it to anyone.

In my opinion you will waste your money to pay for meet and greet.

Regards,

Thanks for all the replies. I'll be picked up by Africa Sky's B&B.

Sounds like I don't need to use the service.

happy hunting, dv

Dusty,
I bought a pine ridge rolling duffel from Cabelas. It has a hard bottom in it. A couple of layers of clothes / bow / some more clothes and you only need one bag. Plus its not camo and doesnt attract any attention. I would also recommend wearing non-hunting clothing on the trip.

I'll look at those duffels again. If I remember right the longest one wasn't long enough for my ATA on my back up bow.

Definitely planning to travel sans camo and after lots of feedback here on AfricaHunting.com I will be taking only a minimum of camo.

Thanks, dv

Just something to think about. Instead of taking a back up bow. Buy a new set of cables and string and put it on your bow now. Keep the old set to take as a back up. If something happens to your string or cable, it will only take a few minutes to have you back in buisness. Sights, stabalizers and other accessories are readily available in RSA.

Excellent advice.....

I have used the drop bottom duffle for a take down rifle and again for a bow;worked great.I have an aluminum case made to fit the bottom, with removable foam to change the interior to suit my needs.
