A short video of a hunters first deer taken with Hayden Potts of Unique adventures. You have to love Ben's (the hunter) response to the situation.

I cant wait to have crack at those little spotted rippers over the queens birthday week end .:first:

Fantastic good eating and a great hide Congrats to the new hunter.

Hayden and Unique Adventures are fantastic. I'm happy to see him post a hunt of a first timer's success. Good people. I've got a fantastic buff package with him right now if anyone is interested.

thanks wandering jim he certainly has all the gear
if im fortunate enough to come across one like him he is in whole lot of trouble
can you tell me what the rusa are like at present in queensland ?
im told they are on the same property im going to and if they are rubbed out id like to try my hand at them if the opportunity present itself
and are the wriggle sticks hibernating yet ?

he sure has a good set of brows that's for sure! I havnt been inland for quite some time so do not know the jo blake status sorry. The rusa have rubbed out in central qld, just. A mate is heading to the same property with my mate hayden of unique adventures in two weeks time to catch em pre-rut but fully rubbed out. the cocky said he has had two 34 in stags stealing water from his dogs bowl in the backyard so they havnt started getting the testosterone rush either. that wont be til the end of june I would guess. heres the one I got last year! just waiting on formal panel score from ADA and should be top 20.

good luck on the spotty bastards they are hard as hell to get near, esp if you are using stick n string.

no stick flinger this time jim
300 wm it would be great to get a rusa as well but I will be stoked if I can get a good chital this time around and then it will be sticks and string next year up there as I can see it becoming an annual journey up that way
just feeling it out this time .

the bloody photo wont open wj
might want to get bricko or Jerome to wave the magic wand

Cannot be fixed, the picture needs to be uploaded again...

still n good bloke
is that him in the first photo in your photo album marked as a samba
I seen one like him, that a mate took in water valley he called it rubar samba/rusa cross
nice sticks on him
when I try to put up a pic ,I click the icon and then follow the promps

bugger, been doing that re the pics. that's the one in my album. To this day I don't know why I labelled him as a sambar. He's a pure wild central QLD rusa, not one of Angas' pets that hang round the Hilton. Not that im adverse to dropping some of watervalley's finest.

Heres one more go, its poosible the images are too high a res, so I have reduced it.

one like that would be a gift from artemis for sure
how big is he ?
id love to see these guys while rutting ,im told their vocal and aggressive

hes 34 in long with 14 in brows, Still waiting for the official score, but about 225d/s. They go off their head when rutting. theres awesome footage on one of the aussie bowhunting forums of a fella darting a stag when he is brawling with another stag. he drops then the other stag proceeds to belt the buggery out of the now dead animal. this went on for 15 min or so until the hunter was worried that his trophy was going to be damaged beyond repair. the rusa roar is not to dis-similar to a brahman bull bellowing, so its a bugger to differentiate between them when hunting on cattle farms. Hes not a monster compared to one found a 2 years earlier, over 36 in long with twice the mass. my mate is going up there in two weeks time, so im hoping to have some cracker footage of possibly the new aus No1 being taken. the depth of the pearling on these critters is unbelievable.

And I did mount that fallow with his velvet on. I hang them as I find them. He is hanging on the wall at my mates archery shop, Urban archery in melb. If you have ever been there, you will have seen it.

where abouts is urban archery in smellbourne wj?
best I have look for this rusa video
that pearling is the first thing l noticed about these rusa deer .
ive not been to water valley im told its pretty much guarranteed .although I would like to and have a look maybe be as an observer ,and look at the elk
after seeing your rusa im hoping to look for one first, week end after next as im told there s chital everywhere on this place, its getting in to make sure the stag hasn't bust a tine off thats hard ,
do rusa and chital co exist or prefer different habitat?
when do these rusa start bellowing ?and when they are can they be called in ?
sound like a cop with all these questions don't l ?

you are just living up to your name of bluey (that was our nickname for em) with the questions. Im sure chital and rusa can live in the same environment. I am no deer expert, but im sure rusa browse and graze like sambar, and chital graze more like fallow, so competition would be limited. they do both like thick rocky shit country though and river and creek courses are popular bedding area's for both. the rusa wont be going off for another 4-6 weeks or so at a guess but the timing can vary weather depending, and given how dry it is in most areas that hold them your guess is a good as mine. In regards to them being called in, again I don't know, but they will respond to calls so you can locate them easier, like reds I suppose is a good analogy. They don't roar at them in Caledonia cause of the large numbers, just listen for em and walk em up. don't take this as gospel, there are many more experienced rusa hunters on the aussie bowhunting forums that know them like their pet dogs. Its just from my limited exposure to them.

Watervalley is a great place to see deer, as there is all 5 species in 2 paddocks totalling around 100,000 acres or so. The elk are in a separate pen, and they were heavily mixed with red genetics the last time I saw them. PM me if you want more info.
Urban archery is in Greensborough in the nth

It does not have to do with the image size. Sorry but only one of the three images loaded.
