Hello,

I'm a new member and would like to know if anyone has had dealings with a guide by the name of Dirk Faul?

Guide from North America? Or a PH from Africa? And if he is from Africa....which country? Narrows down the search.

Have to agree with E.
A few more data points will help. This is not a Facebook , find friends search. :)

Welcome to AH 123Elk! Is this the Dirk Faul Owner: Ntshonalanga Safaris your asking about?

Welcome to AH 123elk !

Dirk Faul

I assume so. It's a long story but basically, I won an auction he donated last year. Correspondence has been minimal at best. Just got back from SCI in Reno. The hunt was for Namibia. Found one person who knew him and said he wasn't allowed to guide in the area. Didn't paint to rosey of picture. Hence, my question. Thank you for any help.

Without doing any research....what is the hunt? Is he a member of NAPHA? Not sure of any legalities yet, but you may be able to hunt and just take pictures....then you wouldn't have to worry about permits. But then again why head over there if there are problems in the first place. If you give some more details, I'm sure Brickburn can dig something up.

Ok, thanks for the come back. Just a standard hunt. Two guns for seven days three animals each. I'm taking my Son-in-law and two grandsons booked for this May. Red flags popped up when no info what so ever was presented.
Could not get any info on accommodations, which area in Namibia, what additional species/prices etc.,virtually nothing. So, with that said I figured SCI would be a good place to ask around. This is our first trip to Africa and with kids along mistakes are not an option. I wasn't aware of this web site until recently. Fortunately, we have made other arrangements for that time period so Mr. Faul is off the hook as far as we are concerned. I am curious about him. The organization that sponsored his donation is very reputable in my home state of Wyoming and I do not want this to happen to anyone else. The company we found to replace him for that time period is ARU game lodges. We had also booked a 10 day with Bush Africa immediately following. Again, thank you for replies and help.

I have found that SCI does not screen donations. That is the hunters job.
Glad your spidey sense was working and you made other arrangements.

1. He is not a member of NAPHA.

2. Claims to be a member of PHASA in some literature.
He is not on the current membership list.

3. There are OLD listing/postings about hunts on various forums. 2008, 2009
Lots of references of SCI donations Texas to Detroit.

4. This is the only Dirk Faul I can find.

My guess: Gone the way of the DODO!

Not to agrevate any one individual but this is exactly the problem with donations to SCI at this point in time PHASA have suggested that all donation to the body should be endorsed by PHASA like DSC'S policy but this has not been done, this is causing "MAJOR" issues as 80% of all complaints by recieved by PHASA was donation related I do not anticipate Namibian complaints being any different..... I am not in the position to state any negative points about the mentioned outfitter I am only stating stats.

I truly believe that SCI. Should stay true to their philosophy of FIRST FOR THE HUNTER by screening all who donate hunts, the only way to do the would be by following body's recommendations such as NAPHA, PHASA, ZPHA, and APHA.

My best always.

This is certainly one place that SCI has to get their act together. How are people to trust their otherwise excellent organization if stories like this keep popping up? How can we screen the weasels out of the SCI auction and make it a safe place to buy a hunt and support SCI?

I sure hope you are not out much money 123elk and good luck on your hunt with the other outfits.

123elk,
First, welcome to AH. It's a great resource and I'll bet it will be helpful in planning your upcoming hunt with your Son-in-law and grandsons. You all are going to have a great time.

OK, now I have to ask...
Did you win this hunt in a raffle, or were you high bidder in an auction?
If you were high bidder at an auction, which organization held the auction? Have they helped you with this?

Who is the organization that sponsored Dirk Faul's donation? Have they helped you with this?

I sure would like to hear Mr. Faul's side of the story.

Hope you can get this sorted out.

Yes I think a lot of us have been thinking this same thing! And what is it with this "Dirk" thing it seems the last couple of years when enver we hear about a bad PH the name Dirk pops up, if I were a PH with the name of Dirk I'd go get it changed.

Dirk used to work for Peter Harris at Ntshonolonga and at that time was very, very good. Since he has gone off on his own all reports I have received are very dubious.

The organization is Sportsmen for Wildlife Wyoming and yes it was an auction. I was the high bidder. I contacted one of the members who claims to have hunted with Faul and was instrumental in pertaining the donation. It has been a week since I last spoke with him. I view this as a donation. It sucks but I'm thankful ARU stepped up along with the other hunters who were booked for the same time period and are willing to have kids at the lodge. I also appreciate your all's input and help

Based on Brickburn's research, which I trust very much, I think you made the right decision going to a different outfitter. There were some serious red flags in Brickburn's research that lead me to believe Dirk is not on the up and up. I thank Brickburn for his research efforts. There are a lot of good outfitters in the AH community, next time you are looking for a hunt, this is great place to start.
Lack of communication, no references....spell trouble in the hunting world. And SCI does need to clean it's act up and screen outfitters better. When I think of "Out of Africa" over the years with SCI...I think it was a damn shame they where there at conventions!

Avoid DIRK FAUL at all costs! He is a complete fraud! He has taken money and not delivered on hunts. I have personal knowledge of a woman that hunted with him for her one and only safari. After she returned home, he sent her someone else's trophy and he refused to correct the mistake.

He is hunting out of Namibia now because he has been run out of South Africa. He owes so many concessions holders money, no one will let him hunt there property. He was O.K. when he worked for Peter Harris of Ntshonalanga Safaris but once he went on his own he bankrupted it. He has also defrauded people out of substantial amounts of money.

Do yourself a favor and book with someone else.

Thank you. Didn't have a good feeling so we did book with ARU game lodges....can't wait
