Hi guys!

What ammunition do you like better for 470NE? Nomra PH, Federal, Hornady?????

Hi Alcornoque, Looking for an Elephant? ;-)

Next year my friend!
This year I will try to get a last season deal.
The thing is, here in the US, I have to pay much more taxes than expected, which ruined my plans of hunting elephant this season!.
After a few month of delay, my 470NE will be ready soon (at least I hope so), so now is the time to make up my mind of what ammunition I want the gunsmith to use to finish my rifle.
At the very begging I was thinking about the Norma PH, which uses woodleight solids and soft, but now I have heard the Hornady bullets will be available in Spain soon.
What you guys think?

I am sure you will find a good bullet for you new double (pictures when finished please)
...and for your 2013 Elephant, mucha suerte!

Unfortunately I can not help you with 470 bullets

Hornady import for Spain is ardesa

You will see the pictures once the rifle is ready to hunt!
Is ardesa importing Hornady bullets to Spain yet? I do not know in spain, but the difference in price between Hornady and Federal or Norma is huge!
Let me tell you the bullets for 470NE are really expensive!

April expected as I read in ardesa Web, waiting for government approval

I wish I could give you some advice based on experience(someday maybe). I would say try them all. I know it may be costly, but so is the hunt. As many of us have said before. It's all about shot placement. Most of todays bullets are well constructed and will work great if you put them in the right spot. Now that being said, I say Hornady. I am a Hornady nut and use them in all my guns. They have always worked for me. Never shot an elephant with them yet but I am very confident they will work great.

Ardesa is not importing Honrady ammo for the 470NE in Spain!
So I have to decide myself between Norma PH and Federal! I think I will go for Norma...

i think it is down to which make you can get a reliable supply of. my rigby .470 was regulated for federal ammunition who use woodleigh soft and solid as well, but back then in the early nineties you could only get federal.

I use woodleigh softs and solids loaded for me from Safari Arms out of NY, excellent! The woodleigh solid is much better on your barrel than monolithic solids. I called Hornady to see if they had info on their factory
.470 ammo being used in Krieghoff guns and how they performed but their customer service could not handle the question...

First question--What ammunition did the maker regulate your .470 with? That would be a good place to start.

I have also used Safari Arms ammunition loaded with Woodleighs in my .470. Excellent stuff. He will send you a sample pack with several loads so you can see what shoots to the point of aim. Ditto for Superior Ammunition. Also great stuff.

The Norma PH line is loaded with Woodleigh softs and solids. Superb QC, but @ $200 for a package of 10, quite pricey.

The Hornady solid is steel over a lead core with a thin copper jacket. It is not bonded, nor is their DGX soft. It is half the price of everything else. I practice with it, but haven't hunted with it.

Federal loads a Barnes monolithic solid and a Swift A-Frame in .470. It regulates well in my rifle and has performed well in the field. However, Barnes will no longer sell bullets to Federal, so stock up if your rifle likes it.

I took Federal Trophy Bonded Sledge Hammers on an elephant/buffalo hunt in 2010. There is no steel between the bonded core and the jacket. The bullets riveted, bent and fishtailed with monotonous regularity. Will never use them again. Personally brought it to the attention of a Federal rep at SCI a year ago who said "they would open a file on it", and never heard from them again.

Hope this helps.
