Thanks, you should have seen the one I blew a shot at the night before from the same spot. That bull was honestly in the running for a 400 score. Massive long tines, still vivid in the memory banks. I never saw a bull that large before and likely never will again. This includes having seen hundreds in Yellowstone park and thousands on the refuge outside Jackson, WY.

I personally always do a DIY hunt but you can do a guided hunt for $200 a day extra if you want to. Dwayne provides a wilderness tent camp complete with hot showers. He provides the tags and maps, accommodations and a good area to hunt. Dwayne is a pilot and is flying over the area looking for moose all summer long. He is a good guy and will tell it to you straight up.

Bobpuckett - The moose tags in Ontario are only available though an outfitter or resort. These tags are limited, so each outfitter will only have a predetermined number based on moose populations. Because of this the tags are in demand especially since archery moose hunting has become so popular. If your interested give Dwayne a call or e-mail him to see what openings he has available. Sometimes he buys extra tags from other outfitters. This be a very different hunt than Alaska. The Canadian bush is thick heavy northern boral forest with few openings. Glassing is not an option due to the dense cover. Moose are found near the food source is which includes 2-5 year old cut-overs and burns. Other preferred autumn food include dogwood, stripped maple and willow all of which is found along water-ways. Just so you know up-front moose hunting is not a fast paced action packed hunt. You work for your moose. My greatest success is to locate a fresh bull sign then methodically work the area by calling with the wind always being a factor. Moose are not just another pretty face with that big nose. The peak rut is generally occurs the last week of September though the first week of October. There is normally 5 days of peak activity. It would be nice to see you up there.

Bow enough? I talked to several people that have shot a variety of Africa animals with much lighter equipment. Many young hunters and woman managed to shoot animals with bows that pull 40lbs. The efficiency of today's equipment far exceeds those that were available in the past. I wish you the best of luck on your hunt. Don't forget to post some photo's.

I sure hope it is enough bow. It is the same bow and arrow weight i will be taking in June.

2013 is my year for moose. At this point, I have hunts booked in Newfoundland, and Alberta. A DIY hunt in Ontario is being mulled. If I'm lucky enough to draw a Shiras tag in Colorado, the year will be as close as I could get to dying and going to Heaven!

After I plugging in all the required info his Martin sabre mag should shoot at 262 ft/sec thus generating 61 ft/lbs of KE. I have measured my speed with a chrono today and also tried this calculator.
I have not been able to weigh my arrow yet, but if I have estimated correctly, then it should be around 550 grain.
Then according to the calculator, should my speed be around 275 fps.

But the chrono measured my speed to be 260 fps.

So then the question is if my chrono measures correctly(I think it is and the speed measured was very consistent), or if my arrows are heavier than estimated or if my bow doesn't perform as well as the calculator think it should

I guess I will get some answers when I get a good scale to weigh my arrow.

The KE and momentum should be plenty anyway

My FOC is 13%.

Most chronographs are very accurate so I would tend to believe yours. Your arrows may be a little heavier than estimated. Some inserts, nocks, wraps or even a camo finish can vary. FYI- I just weighted some arrows at 463 grains yet the calculator estimates 477 grains. Yet when I weight Packsy's arrows the calculator is with-in 1 grain. I think they had to use a "mean average" to write the calculator software because of variables plus some bow's store and transfer energy better than others.

At any rate it sounds like you have a good set-up to pop some animal air bags.

I finally got to weigh my finished arrow today and it was heavier than I thought.
It is a tad heavier than 600 grain.
That also fits much better with the calculator
So my set up for my PG spot and stalk hunt this year will be:

Bowtech Destroyer 340
70 lbs dw
31" dl
175 Xbow Trick broad head giving a total arrow weight of 600 grain.
260 fps
90 KE
0.69 momentum
13% foc

I think it all looks good and ready to go

Nice set-up.
Even though I like my current set-up...now you got me thinking about adding a little more weight to my arrows.
