Cape bushbuck and Limpopo bushbuck

LOL Im not sure if that simplified or complicated things. 2 distinct species, I get that but now 23 genetically distinct sub-species!!! Oh boy - the currently recognized 6 or 7 subspecies better make way for the newbies!!! LOL

ever growing trophy collections hahaha

So tough luck all you marketeers out there....only 2 bush buck then...we'll stick with our cape. livingstone and HWD Eland...they're worth more! And the biltongs nicer!!!:) Hmm Namhunter, what of the Eastern Highland Eland...we have a special sanctuary set aside for them in our Eastern Highlands! Yet another one for the wall...how big can a trophy room get?!
Jaco you're spoil sport of note boet! just imagine...only 2 little bushbuck!! Almost sounds like a dying breed!

Ja seriaas! If there are so many species of Kudu why not? It'll be the easiest way to have your own HWD Eland as SCI No 1 !! Just think what a marketing tool it will be for your property to have no's 1 to 50 as the top HWD Eland! Of course you'll be the only entry as no one else will be able to recognise or differentiate the species except yourself!!!

Already been done with Grizzly Bears.
You can shoot two bears (siblings) and have two records.
Just have to chase one of those Salmon eaters over the ridge of a mountain to another drainage and you will never be beaten.

Every first time hunter has the "number one" of every species they shoot! :)

Brickburn, you know you're 100% correct! I have PH free lanced on many properties, and when doing so one has to remind oneself that you may not be hunting the client on the prime property for that particular species and so having checked the previous kill register, you may have to take what you may not consider ( PH wise) as a 'prime specimen' but as you rightly say...if it's the clients first, it's gonna be the biggest one in his trophy room! It's about the hunt!

How do the permits work to shoot two bear? I always figured you'd only get one tag?!
Are you allowed to enter a 'self protection' killed bear into the books?

What Brickburn is referring to is the fact a grizzly bear in North America, is a bear that main eats berries and other things other than salmon and other fish in the streams and rivers. A brown bear is classified as a bear eating and living mostly by the oceans and streams eating fish. Because they live on a higher protein diet they grow bigger. He was making a joke in reference to the fact one sibling could be eating fish and another berries. Therefore one is grizzly and the other is a brown bear.

Boone and Crockett has boundaries drawn that seperate the species...but essential they are the same genetic wise.

E, is correct I am making fun of the systems we create to have more "trophy" species or rationalize some kind of fairness.
Bears eating Salmon diets are always bigger than the low protein folk.

Far as I know you can not get two tags in one year. But you can go back the next year!

Self protection bears can me scored , aslong as you are the owner and are legally allowed to keep it.
This does not tend to happen though.
Here they don't want people protecting themselves and then gaining a trophy.
The reason for shooting was to keep your own skin.
When you tell your story to the conservation officer you had better have some bear slobber on your boots too or you might have some trouble.

The brown bear and grizzly in Alaska, are separated by a geographical line, coastal bears, are brown bear, that's why the biggest grizzly's come from Canada. They are coastal brown bears, feeding on salmon, unlike our interior grizzlys. Same bear though. Brian

The Alaskan coastal brown bears are the largest of all bears.

This is where the whole record book thing gets screwed up! The entry in the trophy book...whichever one... should be based on the scientific name of the critter...not it's common name! Where he lives and what he eats shouldn't affect the entry! Just saying!
