Hello everyone! My name is Steve, and I am new to this forum. I have been lurking around for a while, and decided I should join to get the full benefit of it. I live in the Rocky Mountain area of the US, and have hunted my entire life, in many US states and Canada, but not Africa...yet! That will change soon however, as my wife and I are booked for our 30 year anniversary to hunt Namibia next April!

This seems like a very friendly place, and I look forward to learning all I can from you guys, and offering any help I can as well!

Good hunting!

Wilydawg aka - Steve

Welcome to AH - may you have a great stay and add to the discussion in the future...

next april i will be in Zimbabwe...having a grand time after Sable and others..

Welcome to AH!

Welcome to AH! Please share the details of who with and where in Namibia you'll be going.

Wilydawg, welcome, you should love Namibia everyone does. Let us know with whom and where your hunt will take place.

Steve, happy anniversary. Good choice, as Ses says, you should love it. I'll be able to tell you why first hand shortly.
Welcome.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I will be hunting with the Van Niekerk family of Uhlenhorst Hunting Safaris. They are located about 125 miles southeast of Windhoek.

Welcome to AH Steve! Feel free to ask any questions and I look forward to your input.

Welcome Steve! "My name is Tom, and I'm an Africa-addict". Welcome to our group. Unfortunately, there is no 12 step program to help us with this addiction.

Hi Tom,
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. The 12 step program for Africa addicts is listed below.

1. Check Bank Balance
2. Check Wife's mood.
3. Check out AH to find a great deal on a trip to Africa.
4. Recheck Wife's mood.
5. Check out some more deals on AH. The longer you look at them , the better they get.
6. Contact Outfitter
7. Send deposit
8. Check medical aid
9. Tell Wife that you have a great idea.
10. Find new Wife
11. Find new Wife in Africa
12. Visit new Wife every yearly trip.

Marius, your math is off a bit, you forgot that the alimony payments to old wife will be keeping your trips down to going every second year, even with new African wife.

My Bad. Please see amendment below:

13. Change name to Xolani Mbanzi
*14. Refuse to show your birth certificate.;)

* Seems to be acceptable.

Welcome to the forum Steve !

Welcome to AH Steve You and your Wife are going to love Africa. Good Luck

You will definitely enjoy your hunt with the Van Niekerks, they are very hospitable. We have been farming next to Hoekus and his family for the past 20 years.

What animals are you planning to hunt?

Thanks for your reply, and that is great to hear spies! We feel very good about our choice to hunt with them. All of the references we spoke with gave glowing reports on both the hunting and the family. Since you are so close, maybe we will get a chance to meet you while we are there!

We have a 10 day hunt planned, with the animals of choice being Kudu, Black Wildebeest, Oryx, Impala, Springbuck, Warthog, Zebra, Red Hartebeest, and maybe Baboon should the opportunity present itself. Of course, I know this may change based upon opportunities for other species which may come into play, since hunting is hunting. Do you think I should be considering anything else?

See if you can fit a buff or two into the trip...

Docman, if only the pocketbook would allow! What a dream it would be to hunt buff (and all the other DG as well!) It has taken many years to put this trip together, but who knows what the future holds...:)

Looks like you have a nice trip planned. If you get a chance on a big Eland bull take it. It is five years now and I am still trying to find a big eland, they are so sneaky.
