Buffalo Pictures

RichP,

I too will be in Zim in about 3 weeks, leaving home on the 15th June for PG near the Bubiana Conservancy with Touch Africa Safaris. Good luck to you on your hunt! Buffalo are definetly a thrill.

I am hunting next door with Terry Anders from June 15th-July 2nd for lion, buff, and plains game. I had planned on hunting with Johnny, but Alistair had a mix up and sold the lion permit. I think we may have met in Reno. I took the 78# elephant with Johnny back in 09. I am planning on having dinner one night with Johnny when I am over there this year. I know he is hunting lion right now and I am waiting to see some pics, as long as they leave a bigger one for me!

You're right. Thierry introduced us on the last day of the show when he and I were running some errands. I also tried to buy the Sango 2011 lion hunt and was too late. Last I heard, they'd still not shot a lion. I believe the last day of the hunt was the 24th. I'm booked for the Sango lion June of next year along with leopard and buff.

Thierry and I are doing 21 days for elephant, buff and leopard in July of this year. Maybe hippo and crock if time allows it. Should be fun. We hunted Sango in 2009 and my wife loves it there. 21 days will be right up her alley.

Did you ever make a decision about lord derby eland?

Sestoppleman,

Good luck on your hunt. I am not familiar with Bubiana, but it looks like a wonderful place. I am going to take my wife and son to Lemco in 2013. He will be 8.5 at that time. I figure getting to see the wildlife and an opportunity to take a few plains game animals is a great way to break him in. I will get to hunt those big leopards and buff they have.

Will, I bought a LDE hunt with Mayo for Cameroon next year at the GSCO auction this year, but decided to swap it for a bongo hunt as it fit into my schedule better. I am still going back and forth on where to go for LDE and haven't booked yet. I did decide to push my dall hunt back until next year and go to Zambia this year instead for Sitatunga, Lechwe's, and plains game with Richard Bell Cross. Not sure if the rumors are true, but I heard if the current Pres of Zambia gets reelected, he promised to close hunting down.

Thierry is a great guy, hopefully I will run into him over there. Are you hunting Ele at Sango or Mahenye? If time allows, I hope to take a hippo and croc also. It should be great. Too bad we were not there at the same time. I am only going to be there for 14 days, but I have Terry pre-baiting the week before I get over there.

Rich,

Sango. Wife and I are trying to shoot the big four all on that place. Two down, two to go.

Thierry, Dave Rademeyer, and I have a LDE plan for 2013. Bigger elands in CAR . . . interested?

I have heard Sango is amazing from what Johnny has said. I will get there one of these days. Once I get all the plains game hunts I want to do out of the way, I plan on hunting elephant and buff and I am sure Johnny and I will do a few of those trips together.

That sounds intriguing. I have been telling myself I need to slow down a little bit, but I keep ratcheting it up every year. Going for the spiral horns and hopefully after next year will only need the LDE and Mountain Nyala. CAR has great LDE.

I have to agree with Phoenix Phil..........that deep curl is awesome GREAT set of horns!!!

thanks for sharing all those pictures............were grate
all the best,
ibie

Great buff (s) Paul. And love that deep curl. Reckon it might look better on my wall though.

Cheers Messmate.

The hunt itself, for this particular bull, was everything I could have hoped for.

Long hours on the trail culminating in an exciting, close range finish.

The essence of what we strive for with our own buffalo hunts.....to try and concentrate on a worthwhile trophy and take it in circumstances befitting a wonderful game animal; on foot and preferably at close range.

Buffalo hunting is addictive.

Thought I would add this one to this thread... This Buffalo measures apparently 58 inch in spread with 11 inch bosses.

Buffalo pics please!

I've got my safari up and coming and I'm really wanting to get an idea of what I can expect. My outfitter is telling me that what I can expect is a buff between 40 and 43 inches but definitely no more than 43". So what I'm wanting to know is if you guys won't mind post pics of your buff with what each measured. I'm not going after width so much as I wand a deep falling set of horns, a good beautiful curl up. 18 inch boss's that lay flat on his head and decent spread of about 40" or more. I'm not picky on the spread but I'm very picky on the look. I just want one cool looking mount to put in my house. I think it would be way cool.

Here's a pic of the ideal buff, does anyone have any idea of how big this guy is? he came off of spiral horns website

These are my three favorites

First buffalo, actually my first animal in Africa. Under 40" but great drop in the horns and a good boss. The Selous 2008

Almost a scrum cap, the oldest buffalo I have killed. He was close to, if not over 40". Zimbabwe 2011

49", decent drop, probably the biggest buffalo I will ever kill. Mozambique 2010

I like that first one mike. He looks like he carries mass all the way through

The picture of the big buff does not do it justice. This one shows the mass a little better. That Selous buffalo is about as good as it gets though.

That puts some perspective on it.

World record price for cape buffalo bull...

New heights reached at 2011 Thaba Tholo auction
September 2011

On 21 September, Thabazimbi in Limpopo province was a hub of excitement as it played host to the 2011 Thaba Tholo animal auction.

The Etana Wildlife and Tourism team was on hand to provide the necessary insurance cover for the auctioning process that took place.

"For these events the Etana Wildlife and Tourism product line provides a cover path for clients," mentions Joan Jackson, who heads this team. "We insure the animals from the time they are captured, kept within a boma facility, transported and located at the auction house, and handed over to the buyer. We also provide 14days cover following step-off."

At this year's auction the main attraction was the auction of a highly prized buffalo bull. Going by the name Senatla, this nine-year-old possesses impressive traits, and rangers and experts in the field remarked that he is an exceptional breeding bull in terms of pedigree.

"At previous events, bids for animals have surpassed the million rand mark," says Joan. "This showcases the interest in this industry and how business is thriving. At the 2010 Thaba Tholo auction the highest sale was an impressive R9-million. This year was simply incredible. Senatla's final selling price was R18-million, a new record at any auction."

These events created a general excitement among all who attended the auction. The wildlife and tourism industry is a vibrant one, and wildlife such as Senatla the record-breaking buffalo bull highlight the potential.

Etana Wildlife and Tourism valued the event as an opportunity to gain further understanding of the amount individuals will spend at auctions to secure highly sought-after animals.

I decided to carry that 100 Rand RSA note and find something that copied it as best I could.
Good enough for South African money, good enough for me.

I figured it was about the size you are being promised.

wow brick. if thats what a 43" er looks like thats pretty much what i have in mind. i dont know why but for some reason the coolest and meanest mount i have ever seen is a euro mount done on a big ol buff bull with that classic shape. i want a buff euro as a center piece in my trophy room somethin bad.
