All,

I am thinking about booking a trophy bull elephant hunt with Ndumo Safaris in the Caprivi.

Does anyone have any experience there as far as numbers and quality?

I am trying to decide between the trophy hunt and a non-exportable bull and looking for info on potential quality on the trophy side.

Thanks in Advance,

BIP

WOW! Best if luck!! I'm sure a few on here have been in that area on a hunt like this!

Hunted buffalo there a few years ago and was dodging elephant constantly - including one at thirty yards that easily had 55-60 a side. The strip is so narrow that new animals are always transiting. Also, much of the strip is essentially the same ecosystem as the Okavango with its abundant herds. Like Botswana, the bulls tend to be huge with very thick ivory. Very different than the animals you would have seen in Tanzania. So yes - perhaps the very best remaining destination for a truly great bull.

Oh boy are you in for the hunt if a lifetime. Do the one you can afford most and document it all step by step. You will not regret the energy, expense or preparation for this hunt.
It is my understanding that the area is full of quality elephant.

Brett,
Caprivi is a truly wonderful place. I hunted there this time last year with Gysbert with Aru Game Lodges for cull elephant and buffalo. Both the elephant and buffalo are unpredictable and always moving. You will see both but finding that one big bull is tricky. I had another hunter in camp that was switching camps desperately trying to find a trophy elephant bull. As with any hunt ask them lots of questions especially what month are they most successful.
I hope you have a great hunt and enjoy the planning of it here on AH!
Regards,
Philip

Really good point - I was in the east central region in July. And the far eastern end is very different from the central area - both can be outstanding - but "when" can matter.

Philip said it right......ask lots of questions.........regardless of who the outfitter or area!

what month were you there?

You might give Jack Atcheson Jr http://www.atcheson.com/ a quick call. Just last week they had a Caprivi trophy bull hunt cancellation for this November. The guy is walking away from a 50% deposit (I think all in). We are taking the whole crew to Key West in November or I would have been all over it.

One of the best elephant guys out there his areas are great. I would not hesitate to hunt with him again in fact I think I will be hunting with him in 2018 I just got back from a elephant hunt with him in July. Seen lots of elephants almost to many we where in herds of 100 plus and it made it hard to get in and out to pick a bull without being winded. You can On my way! If you would like to chat more or call me.

This is the ivory from the bull I shot with Ndumo and I would guess this is the smallest bull he will take this year for a trophy bull. I'm not one for LBS more about the hunt and it was a great one. Maybe in 2018 I will look for a bigger one.

@Uintaelkhunter , typical tusks for Namibia, for interest, what was the pounds?

I know it is typical of a Namibia elephant much the same as a Botswana one short and thick ivory and very big bodied. The short one measured 16-1/2x27 out of the lip and the longer one was 16x36 no official weight until they are registered. We guess him around 45lbs per side give or take and I think Karl's camp scale said 42lbs one day I would like to take a 60lbs plus but i won't pass up a older bull like this one. This was my second elephant hunt and it was everything I wanted and more lots of elephant once we got in them got to get close and move between them got charged by some cows and shot this bull with a frontal brain with my 470 double iron sight just the way I would like so I couldn't have asked for more we probably seen bigger just didn't get to get in on one with so many around.

how do i get in touch?

@Uintaelkhunter , the perfect elephant hunt. About 5 years back a 104 pounder was taken up there, the tusks were also very short but stocky.

Firstly, full disclosure.
I believe I can be bold enough to suggest Karl to be a good friend of mine.

No, I have not hunted with him, but I do know at least half a dozen people who have and all without exception have been successful and greatly satisfied with the service Karl provides.

As a person Karl is dependable, honest and a pleasure to be around.

There are very few around involved in the number of Elephant hunts per annum that Karl does and yet he does it with little fuss and no fan-fare.

He is very unassuming and, as reported to me by those who have hunted with him, an exceptional PH.

If you intend booking with Ndumo you can book with confidence.
