How many Hunters travel to South Africa each year to take advantage of our excellent Wingshooting Opportunities?
Please post details of the areas you have hunted and the quality of the shooting.

The Limpoppo in South Africa is amazing for wing shooting. If you love to shoot birds then this is certianly the place for you. Most people travel to South America to wing shoot, but Africa is right up there on the top of the list. It truely is a best kept secret in wing shooting. One tip; bring lots of shells because you're going to need them!

One of the best places towing shoot is in Harrismith in the Free State. Simon Leach, a good friend of mine, has excellent wing shooting down there. If you want a real wing shooting experience you should go hunt with him. http://www.eaglesafaris.co.za/

I have done a lot of big game hunting and I love that, but my ultimate passion is wing shooting. It is all about the fast paced action for me, especially with high volume... that's good stuff.

When it comes to wing shooting in Africa, it is essential to go with a hunting outfitter who is experienced at it and also has that passion... or you may be disappointed. For me there are only a few who do it well.

I have bird hunted a couple of places in this world, and for rock pigeon Simon Leach is one of the best i have experienced. Ducks and geese are also good with Simon, but if you want fast shooting rock pigeons is the thing. I can only recommend him to you, because he is really one of the best in SA.

I have never traveled a great distance just to bird hunt. I enjoy bird hunting, although there have been times, after guiding waterfowl hunters for about 8 weeks straight, when it was not high on my priority list.

Any trip I make over seas would be for big game and birds would be a side benefit for a couple of hours of shooting. But that is just me and big game has always been my focus.

I love wing shooting.

My favourite bird to hunt is Rock Pigeons.

You normally dont have to travel to far for a good hunt.

They are some of the fastest game birds around and you need to know what you doing with a shotgun under hunting conditions to keep on hitting them regularly.

They are also good eating and never go to waste.

I have had clients telling me that a day spend wing shooting Rocky's was some of the most relaxing and fun hunting they have ever experienced as there are always targets in the air....

This was a mornings take...

I only have experience shooting the Spur Fowl. They were targets of opportunity added on to the end of my plains game hunt. What a great bonus it was! Super fun!

Would love to return someday and shoot ALL the others on the Poll list.

I love hunting birds, but I would never pay much money for it.
And big organized hunts for birds have never interested me.
Driven hunts is not my thing at all.
I prefer to do some sort of rough shooting, decoying or stalking with a rifle.
I prefer to hunt alone or with maximum 2-3 friends.

I Had an awesome experience on a Hunting Safari, this was a 8 day hunting safari on Rovos Rail train in South Africa.
I worked as a gun assistant for the 8 days.
We travelled from Pretoria going through the Mareetsane are, then Kimberley, Bloemfontein Free-State, then back again to Pretoria.
Every day was different, Rock Pigeon, Dove, GuinaeFowl ,Duck, Geese and Francolin, depending on the days itinerary.
Non hunters enjoyed game viewing and museums at Lodges and small "dorpies".
There was also some Plains Game hunting arranged on this Safari.
Here is some pics:

Rooster, which year were you on the train? I did some of the shooting for Rovos, was always such a rush to get hunters back on the train.

I shot doves last July with Nathan Regal in the Free State. I had already taken buffalo, Eland and Zebra and told my PH I was out of funds for more trophy fees, so he suggested we try some dove shooting, though it was past the prime time of year. He and I shot about 850 dove over 2 1/2 days! I'd like to try it again in prime time! We had a fantastic time and I hope to do it again.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
