Welcome to AH, a quality bullet in the right place matters most.

Hello Sealesniper.....I trust you have also been thinking about the process of bringing your trophies home either dry salted for your taxidermist in the USA to work on or completely taxidermied from a taxidermist in Africa. Either way you decide, my company offers the full service handling of your trophies which starts now, before you even head out. This way, you are assured that all in properly set up before you leave and we help you budget accordingly. We have 7 offices in the US and can bring your trophies into the closest port to your final destination. Give us a call and we will be happy to go over the process with you. We take the burden of responsibility off your shoulders so that you can enjoy a stress free hunt and assured that your trophies will arrive to the US safely and as efficiently as possible. Our number is 845-943-5943 and ask for Rosella or Tara.
Best,
Robert

I am aware of the 375 min for buffalo and other "big game". I was thankful to get all the responses thus far. I do have a custom in 7 WSM, that is an awesome shooter. It was built by SSG and I have made some spectacular shots and groups out past 1400 yards with it. QUESTION.... in the expereince of the forum, are factory 7 WSM rounds available in SA if my handloads get lost in travel. I would love to take this gun with me as my "go to" gun and few guns give me the absolute comfort and confidence as this gun does. I don'd think I have ever pulled the trigger on it and not seen the animal or target get hit where I was aiming. Thank you all for the warm welcomes.

I have not read any of the books by Nathan Foster, but I will look into his works. Thank you for the lead.

Thanks guys.

Roger

Robert,
My hunting buddy has been researching the proper ways to bring our thophies back, but I will pass this information to him. Thank you.

here is a thread i started as many people worry about their ammo not turning up. as you can see it isnt something that happens much at all.

dont know anything about the 7wsm but if you like it take it. the .308 and 300 win will work fine also. your hunt take the one you want to use :D Beers:

One more question. In your experiences, what is the normal range for PG? I have read many articles on PG in Mpumalanga and it seems the average ranges are from 50 to 180 yards. Is that what your as a forum would say is normal from your times in the bush? Is there a "need" to be able to shoot further, or will an experienced PH be able to manuver us into a better position for a 200 yard or less shot. The reason I ask this is once again because of the .308 and energy and knockdown. I have some pretty wicked handloads in 165 grain bonded bullets I laod for my father and his .308 that have plenty of energy out to 250 yards. IMHO 250 yards is the maximum ethical range for the 308 as the FPE drops to or below 1800. I feel 1800 FPE is the minimum required for ethical shots on 500 pound game and under. In fact, I will not allow my kids to shoot my 308 at a bear over 150 yards. So, those of you with a few PG safari under your belts, ranges did you operate under for your hunts? Thank you in advance.

Welcome to AH! Lots of great people here!

Welcome.
I would suggest taking the firearm you really want to. I wouldn't let some horror stories about lost ammo change my mind. I enjoy shooting distance as well. I used my 30-378 on my first trip. Definitely lots of gun. Never really had an opportunity on much past 600 yds. What ever choice you make, be comfortable with it. Personally, I'd be making room for the Kimber, but that's me....
