Buffalo cow hunts how many actually book them?

We get a few bookings every year for buffalo cows and of course the clients do end up takeing other animals ,a buffalo cow hunt can be as exciting as a bull hunt and the person gets all the experiance and excitement at a fraction of the cost of a bull hunt .A lot of people also dont have the space for the trophies on there walls and they do enjoy hunting so they end up shooting a cow .We should hunt for the experiances and enjoyment and not only to collect the trophy.

I have no interest in more trophies on my walls. But I love new experiences and hunting in interesting habitats. A cow Buffalo hunt is something I would like to do.

I too have no interest in trophies but love the hunt.I took a buff cow in RSA last year and loved it. I would do it again tomorrow and twice on Saturday.I’m now on the lookout for a tuskless ele …..

According to the research I have done, and the recent experience I have had, Buzz Charlton of CMS is the original developer and most admirable promoter of tuskless elephant hunts. His outfit is first rate, his ethics impeccable, and experience second to none.

I took a buff cow in 2018 in Limpopo. When asked why I took a cow, I told the acquaintance it was $5000 cheaper than a bull. I don't mount trophies either. Just lots of pics. May take another one if I return.

What’s the fee for a cow ? I would love a cow buffalo skull on my wall and some hides for some leather projects
a cow hunt sounds like a very capital idea

My cost in 2018 was $4000 for the cow and a warthog. While there I took a zebra also at $1000. I should add that the $4000 included a 7 day hunt costs.

My wife is planning on taking a cow this year…I may end up taking one as well if the opportunity presents itself…

@Bos en Dal SAFARIS has posted a special on cow hunts this year.. I’ll see if I can find the thread and will post a link.

The experience of the hunt itself is what all of us treasure most. I am probably not going to have any more taxidermy mounts done. I enjoy the ones I have, but there's not much room for more in the little hunting cabin I have. I would be interested in a hunt for a buffalo cow, especially as an add-on to a plains-game hunt.

June is around the corner then I will go after buffalo again and see if I can find a proper cow this will be my 3rd if I can get it done.
458 Lott 500gr softs.

Great thread, I believe quality hunts should hover $14,000 - $17,000 excluding charter in S.A. Many places in SA do not need a charter and that saves the hunter some loot.

I am not a fan nor will I ever promote buffalo to be around the $10,000 mark. To me that is cheapening our natural resources and not where hunting a member of the big 5 should be priced.

There is value in most proper buffalo safaris and that is worth a decent price tag.
We also need to remember that buff take up to 10 years to be a proper shootable bull, this alone will keep the price stable within the “breeding market” so many take part in, in South Africa.

Same with Eland, same with kudu bulls these animals take almost and a decade to fully mature and to be able to hunt with minimal breeding related impact…

For the guys wanting the experience but not wanting to pay the “premium” there are buffalo cows and or the smaller ranch type set ups.
For those who are set on hunting a bull, there are various options throughout Africa and with a year or three of saving the dream can become a reality.
In stead of trying to fix prices on the bottom line in SA why not try to create extensive areas and promote an exclusive quality experience.

Thats the flip side of the coin.

Let’s not cheapen real hunting experiences.
My best always.

A capital idea - I have 't heard that fine phrase for a long time!

As option to hunt in other countries:
Are female animals anywhere banned from hunting?

(like in Mozambique, Tanzania, Zim, Uganda, Botswana, etc ?)

No females on quota in Mozambique (Niassa special reserve) that I know.
I can’t speak for other African countries.
My best as always.

Whilst I agree that cheapening the grand sport is not on, the economics dictate that for viability money has to come in, period. The higher the price the number of potential clients tails off, drastically I should think. I would have thought that the $10k mark was about right for the medium-top end and your $17k for the Out of Africa experience on a huge concession for a 12 day hunt.

South Africa is already out “shooting” the supply hence the pricing. True Quality hunts in SA will remain at around $14,000 minimum, premium areas of 30,0000 acres plus will be around $16,000 - $17,000. This because real management is taking place.
Note I’m not referring to shooting a specific bull with a specific client. The latter will always be the “cheaper” option.
I for one would rather hunt less buffalo a season than chase the volume game…

Ive seen many buff hunts in SA advertised for $8k - $10k but these hunts simply do not compare to the higher priced safaris.
Not being an ass but someone needs to be open about it.

With that said there will always be a market for the less expensive more commercialized “buff safaris”

I guess it’s a matter of which side of the math/conservation effort you want to be on….

I believe it is a mistake setting the bar low on SA’s wildlife as the country will then just continually prove what it has been criticized for internationally. There is a line that needs to be drawn sooner or later.

This has already been noticed over the last couple of years and it’s not by outfitters or ph’s it is by the consumers like so many other places.
Interestingly enough consumers/hunters are not all that impressed with the commercialized “deal” packages over the broad spectrum.
For some reason hunters honestly still want a truly Authentic African experience or at least something that strongly resembles it when traveling half way around the world……… and in my 24 years of experience as an outfitter/ph in a company that’s been around for 35 years….they are willing to pay for it.
My best always.
