SCI "First for Hunters"??? / "First for Oil Investors"!!!

The following is an email I received today from SCI. Many of you probably received this too.

One and a half to four years ago I made multiple phone calls and sent emails to SCI to voice concerns. Emails were not returned. In answered phone calls, the response I would get is, they would have someone get back with me. No one ever did.

My membership lapsed. Even though I am no longer a member of SCI, I get regular bulk emails. I also get these periodic solicitations from "SCI Sponsors".

SCI did their best to hide during the "Cecil debacle". They did nothing to try and educate the public during a critical time. Evidently they changed their mantra to "First for oil investors" and I missed it.

I feel very privileged that I can invest in these special oil deals even though I am no longer a member of SCI! Possibly I can get into the "Oil Inner Circle."

I wonder if SCI will develop a proactive media release in preparation for the next "BP platform collapse" or "Exxon Valdez"?

I bet the dentist got offered the investment opportunity too, even though SCI has him suspended still as far as I know.

Reminds me of the old ad, "don't have an oil well, get one!" From the 70's. Nice to know how "valuable" an SCI membership is. They really showed their true colors this year. Thanks for keeping us informed.

Got it as well, but I'm a member.

Oil is (or was, until just recently) my business, and I can tell you it's been a pretty crappy business for a while now. I'm astounded that SCI gets involved in selling these - or frankly any type of - investments. The oil and gas business is extremely risky, and I'd have thought wasn't really appropriate for most people, at least as a direct investment. But what do I know. Just been in it for 30 years.

Wife and I were members in Wy. until we found out how phony some of the members are..We dropped SCI and now only support NRA...

Hank, I agree that it seems to be a poor business model for a nonprofit to allow its members to be solicited in this manner. Especially with an investment vehicle like o&g. Thus the reason for my post. It just seems that SCI has lost focus of their purpose.

What do you want to bet that the Blackstone Group, Warburg Pincus and CNN Money quotes are a few years old.

Stopped in a oil booth the first time I went to the SCI convention. I happen to be an investor, I grabbed a package and told them I would have my Acountant and financial adviser look at it. They haven't left me alone since, even though I told them as a Canadian I can't take advantage of their tax breaks, so I'm not even remotely interested.

This is part of the reason why I will no longer support SCI. After the way they handled or should I say lack of handling Cecil among st many other things IMO I have found it senseless to support them. They IMO do nothing to protect our sport again IMO. I seriously doubt CJ McElroy would approve of the direction SCI has taken since his passing. I was honored to speak to him several times, He loved hunting and loved to talk hunting. Although he was a wealthy man to me he always seemed genuine, at least in my conversations with him. SCI is nothing more than a lost sheep.....

Second time I have supported you today! What's up with this? I fully agree with you even though I am still a member. I personally believe that Dallas Safari Club is a far more hunter oriented organization and has been for many years.

Completely agree. SCI has become a sham for hunters. IMO

How many solicitations do y'all get from the NRA? I get at least 1 a week regarding all kinds of crap..... No of which are regarding the NRA or guns.

I don't get them that often, but do receive them for all types of things unrelated to even firearms, let alone hunting. If they ever drop their gun insurance program, I will most likely drop them. That is the primary reason I am there. I have not found gun insurance anywhere as cheap as through the company the NRA uses.

In most cases it is already covered/included on your Homeowners insurance, up to your policy limits on Contents. just subject to your deducible. NRA throws in the "free" $2500 included with your membership... DU has a similar program. I believe they are all offered/underwritten through Lockton Affinity. I have yet to hear if anyone has ever had a claims experience with them. I'd be anxious to know how that went down.

SCI lost my support this year. They were sorely lacking in there response to all the different bans and of course the Cecil incident. In my humble opinion they have lost sight of their mandate and become a self serving organization. I will not be giving them money simply so they can live high on the hog and exploit us.

I got that damned spam and earlier this summer I did receive a phone call soliciting investment. reflecting upon that, I wonder if it was related to my signing up on that special membership deal SCI had going? Last thing I need or want is more junk phone calls!
