Trophy Exportation From RSA

Has any outfitter or trophy exportation company been experiencing difficulties in applying for export permits from South Africa the past couple of months?! Your feedback would be highly appreciated...

With the changes that came into affect lately it is taking a bit longer!! If you use a taxidermist in the province the animals were hunted in it is no problem, the problem is jsing a taxidermist in a nother province!!
I have trophies that was hunted in NW province and are at a taxidermist in Gauteng, now the taxidermist needs to apply at Gauteng Nature Conservation for export permits, they in turn needs to get approval from NW nature comservation. After approval was givem that everything is legal, gauteng issue the export permit! This is taking for ever and i personally think it is a waste of time!!
In the old days the taxidermist applied directly to the conservation in the province the trophies were hunted in.

My trophy crate should be in LA on Friday morning according to Tara at Safari Specialties. Not too bad since they were dropped off at the dip and pack in Port Elizabeth the end of May. They said they would ship the end of July but a extra month wasn't too bad of a wait. I was notified around the 22 of August that they were ready to be shipped and all the paper work was taken care of.
 
Making a simple process more difficult.... a South African specialty of late.
 
Same problem as Gerrit. We use guys in Gauteng and the new process is a waste of time, starting to get better now.

One should think long and hard about hunting with a outfitter that uses a taxidermist in another province, on plains game I would make sure the outfitter uses one that's local. On multiple province hunts or some big 5 you will just have to deal with the delay.
 
In my case, i am already waiting 1 1/2 years for my plains game trophies. it is absolutely unacceptable with certain taxidermy in SA.

not always the Taxidermy...

1. Outfitters paperwork not always correct.
2. nature conservation permits for export is a problem.
3. export company cannot export because of transporters / airway that are close.

Nevertheless, 1 1/2 years are unacceptable. Until up to now. I don't know how long it will take. I am upset the more i think about it.

You always need to ask regarding the waiting time before you engage with these taxidermists.
Many years ago, my Tanzanian trophies were shipped to RSA ( where I live) and then the work was done by Lifeform Taxidermy in Whiteriver... I knew up front that their waiting period was LONG due to the excessive clientele that they drew, but still went for it as they do EXCELLENT work... of late, I am using Taxidermists closer to home ( Cape Town) and have had excellent work done by Karoo Art and Buck 'n Bass...my Zimbabwe trophies get shipped to Buck 'n Bass, my Kalahari trophies get shipped to Buck 'n Bass...
in 2005 I moved to Brazil and shipped ALL my trophies with my household goods!! THAT was a mission and I can understand where the above frustration from members is coming from. I had to get paperwork from different provinces dating back to 1994 for the purposes of EXPORT PERMITS!! Again, LIFEFORM were brilliant in assisting with this, even with trophies that they had NOT done themselves.
 
Never bring your trophies to Standerton. Maybe you will never see them again.
 
A year on trophies that have special products being made out of the leather is expected as I've found. In my experience the long waits have not been with the taxidermy, Capricorn, but with export paper work and then the actual shipping. Mike at Capricorn has always gotten my work done in reasonable time. Then the paperwork issues begin. At the start of this thread the question was if this was taking longer and it sure did for items on my 2014 hunt.
 
After hearing some of the horror stories on here it sure makes me appreciate Bullseye Taxidermy that much more! My trophies that they received in August will be ready in March/April.
 
I got some news: there is some hope, that i will receive my trophies in 2 weeks. After 21 months ....
 
took about 1 month for the export permits, mine arrive next week. The hunt was May 2015. Safari Cargo Systems do a competent job in shipping
 
Thank God, wonder still happen !! Yesterday i received my trophies after 21 months. Although it took much too much time, i have to concede, that the taxidermy work was done properly and i have no complaint about that.

Next week i am on a hunting trip in Namibia. I am so curious how it will work in German south west :)
