PAC Elephant hunts on offer

I have no horse in this race and only reported what I saw. As Juan states there was definitely a primary PH in the Mozambique part of the show and on reflection it would appear that there was also a lead PH in the Zim portion, so from my perspective I would be willing to take him at his word subject to verification by the Zimbabwean authorities. Again I was just reporting on what I saw and hope it didnt sound accusatory. I just found the whole back and forth interesting and I hope it gets resolved to everyones satisfaction.

For me it's totally clear thanks a lot. I think that 90 percent of the hunting trip are booked under an agent or an outfitter who know somebody and who bring his clients to an other partnear.
For me the most important thing is the hunt must be legal (and this is the case here) and professional (and this is also the case here with Juan). Doesn't matter if three guys have to organise it for me or one single man in direct. If the price, the service and the client's target is respected, this is the most important... Keep kool. Lol.

I am not trying to be accusatory either, but i don't think they ever said the PAC hunt was actually legal. It would seem that a registered Zim PH is running the hunt, but the hunt itself?

Engee, as the Chairman of the ZPHGA, and a committee member of SOAZ, it is my right and duty to ask these questions. Juan Pace is not a licensed Zimbabwean PH, and Shangwari safaris is not registered with SOAZ.

Dear Martin,

Then I suggest you get in touch with Juan Pace directly to find out through which outfitter and with which PH he will be conducting these hunts. The last I spoke to him he informed me that the first of these hunts start on Monday the 7th of February.

For those who are concerned about my reaction, I do not take kindly to suggestions made that I am peddling illegal hunts, my own reputation is on the line and as such I make very, very carefull desicions as to who I work with in this industry as there are a great many "sharks" out there, Juan Pace of Shangwari Safaris is not one of them.

Thank you,

Engee Potgieter

Thanks for the confidence!.Just something for thoughts.I have read over a couple of other forums today and a great number of outfits allso offer such hunts , there are prices reaching so high as R75000 per hunt. This is just for interest and not for trying to drag others through the mud as well.

Still no answer from either of you as to the whether this hunt is legal for anyone but Zim residents....

Maybe Marty will answer that one for us.

Tom, I'm sure they're legal...it's just all this middleman stuff...which is becoming more and more of an annoyance to me. I have seen this more and more in Africa. SA outfitter has clients that want to dangerous game hunt they go to Mozambique or Zimbabwe and take a cut of the cut and keep clients happy...hoping for more and more business. It's all about who you do business with at the end of the day.

I'm just not sure if the hunt season for the PAC hunts in ZIM open on Feb. 7, 2011 or not...only Martin will know.

I just wish someone would state who's license they are hunting under? Company name and PH? No one really has come forth with this information. And the answer should be relative easy. But then again maybe there afraid someone else will set up a business deal with the ZIM operator. All this grey area tells me again and again book with a outfitter that runs the concession or area directly.

I am following this thread now for some days, and at first i was thinking, stay out of this but i just want to add my 5 sents to this. I think it is time that we in South Africa and as South African outfitters sell what we do have at our doorstep. Sell South Africa the Blesbuck and the Springbuck, but then we also would like to sell Buffalo and Elephant at good price. In South Africa it is not possible to compare prices with Zim and we all know that, that's why we want to hunt Zim, Botsawana, Moz and all the other hunting countries but then you need to work with one outfitter and one only. Forget about the guy that know a guy that does have the papers i think sir, work with the outfitter that does have the licence and the correct paperwork in hand. I am hunting 18 years full time this is not the first discussion of this kind i heard or read about, and yes i feel sorry for the outfitter in SA that would like to hunt Zim or any other country and then he walk into a mess like this , remember it is about his name also how long will it take to clear his name but boys let's keep it simple and strait work with the guy in Zim or any other country with the permit or with the tr 2 in hand. And yes there are South African outfitters who do hunt other countries without any problems. Just my feeling about this all good luck guys and enjoy the season ahead.

Tom, I'm sure they're legal...

I wouldn't be so sure about that. There is a lot of information stating that PAC hunts are only to be taken by Zim residents (mostly apprentice PH's taking them), and not available to foreign clients. Now management hunts (similar to PAC) are legal but from the research i've done, the Zim government has not yet set fees for those types of hunts. I could be wrong and i'd sure like to hear from Marty but i'm sure he's busy in Reno at the moment.

:wacky:I guess I could be wrong, Tom....someone needs to clear this topic up! I think I have been feed lies now too....I thought PAC hunts were legal?

Like a Zim licensed PH.
