SOUTH AFRICA: Gizmo Family's African Safari Hunt

I really enjoyed that excellent write-up! Hopefully the video will be somewhere where we can see it!

Click on the Texas Hunting Done Right banner, Gizmo has a pretty nice place. I bet he would more than happy to host you out at the Rocking G Ranch for a hunt and throw the video in for FREE!

Erik,

I am so sorry to hear of those bullet failures on the lion and buffalo.

Obviously Hornady's "Dangerous Game" bullets are not up to striking meat and bone when going very fast at all.

I feel a bit guilty now for having posted photos of two of them, recovered from animals I had shot with them.

Kind regards,
Paul (Velo Dog).

Not your fault brother. I should have done more research on them myself. I've used hornady for years and just assumed that because all their other stuff is good that would be. On a bright note I just found out the buff was seen today alive. Andri is going to go sort him out for me and all is not lost.

Erik, great report so far! This isn't intended to rub salt in an open wound as it were, but thank you for your brutal honesty regarding the DGX/DGS bullets.

@Panielsen, you were asking about these bullets in your .458 M70 thread. I'd like to say this is the first bad report I've read on the DGX/DGS bullets, but it isn't. There are numerous reports posted on the internet over the last few years that read just like this one.
No worries and no salt. This is the first time I have heard a 1st person report of failure of the ammo. All the other stuff I have heard in the negative has been "my buddy has a friend who...", or "they just suck, but I haven't used them because they suck..." I am curious to keep going with this thread to find out what Hornady had to say, and what about the lot number. No offense taken, nor am I ignoring the report.

Wheels this s the first I've heard of problems with the DGS. Several folks on this site have had problems with the DGX bullet! I did not have any problems but would want to know from Gizmo what batch number his DGS came from as that is what I'm using on my hunt!
Here, here!

For the inquiring minds who want to know the Batch # for the Hornady dgx is 82665. For the dgs it is 82666.
Thanks Gizmo! Now I have to go home at lunch, open the safe, and go through ALL my ammo! Lol I appreciate you info and story. Great writing!

What did Hornady have to tell you about the failures? Since they probably don't say there is a problem to just anybody, what did they tell you who actually HAD the failure?

Great news on the buffalo Gizmo! Hopefully he will be taking up permanent residence in Texas soon !

The response was " we haven't heard of any problems" and "we'll check into it after they were sent the pics". Also please note that the first set of #'s I posted were wrong. I reposted the correct lot #'s.

Yea I'm always the only one to have problems with stuff as well. A few times (local short line machinery for example) I've gotten frustrated and just took stuff back to the factory. Get there and the whole loading dock is full of other parts the same as mine... I'm sure all those come from the same person, the only who has a problem;)

Gizmo,
So are they going to put him down and send you the head? The buff I mean?

That's great news sir.

very curious to see what happened with the bullets in that buffalo! Congrats on no more sleepless nights wondering about the buffalo!

Great news On the buff Giz! How is the delivery from Dennis going to work out? Does he deliver to Texas and if so how far South does he go?
