I will just add one thing to the report for the sake of accuracy. Yes, his paramedic skills were put to good use on the cut finger of the station cook but it was a very small cut. In hindsight his intervention was just an excuse for a bloke to hold the hand of a good looking blonde who was half his age.

Yes we do. Wild dogs are a threat to new born calves.

The majority of hunting in Australia is for introduced pest species. Pigs, fox, goat, dogs. That is the reason there are very few seasons or limits and hunting can be all year round. In fact is is an offence to allow feral species to proliferate on private land so property owners often welcome reliable recreational shooters onto their land. Gaining that trust is the largest challenge to recreational shooters in Australia.

I have taken two Londoners out for a week. They borrowed our rifles as Australian importation laws for firearms can be complicated for those not hiring a PH.

I have only seen one add for hunting camels a few years ago that quoted A$15K. The logistics and cost to get to them are considerable. To fly in and out would be extremely expensive in Australia and it is a bare bones shoot with no luxuries or time for arse kissing.

August is their rut. Before then you will bump small batchelor groups or breeding herds. It is also cooler in Aug. I try to go June - August.

I don't hear a lot about 250/3000 cartridge being used in hunting, I know my now deceased uncle used one for Whitetail in Michigan, I'm thinking my 22/250 would be right at home down under, thanks for sharing your hunt

Thanks for the report...sounds like you guys averaged two camels a day between you. Excellent success rate I would say.

This report reminded me of an add from years back showing a wild donkey and the caption "Australian for Varmint" or some such.

You guys really do have interesting vermin!

That makes sense to me because it is really remote. If I do a hunt in Australia it will probably be for water buffalo because that seems to be the most popular and therefore has a developed market for foreign hunters.

I find all the feral species in Australia to be very interesting - goats, donkeys, dogs, etc. and would make for a unique hunt.

Yep its year round hunting except in the north where they have a wet season. The Water Buffalo market is well developed and very cut throat. What you pay for is reliabilty. I have had a few friends spend a lot of time in camp waiting for 'repairs' with one vocal outfitter on another forum. If you do go for a water buffalo hunt do your research very carefully and check out if previous customers have had 'down time'.

I won't pay for a water buffalo hunt as it does not represent good value for me. I would highly recommend a scrub bull with feral pigs though, if you like a little action.

I'd love to do it. Heck most of my life has been spent culling and predator hunting anyway why not take my talents down under! Seriously how does a fellow find out how to go do this hunt? Can I Get a rifle into Australia?
