Well finally got through a number of "Honey Doo's" and got to mostly finish my 404 Jeffery. Just need to confirm that the iron sight are regulated. Got in the dies brass and bullets so I need to load some rounds up and get to the range:Pompus: It started off and a 375H&H Ruger RMS. I sent the action off to Pac-Nor to be rebarreled into a 404. They did a very good job. Since the RMS has the recoil system in it and the barrel has the step milled a lug second screw to provide a little pressure on the front lip of the stock. So I milles a small piece and fit/soldered it to the barrel. Soldered a NECG fron ramp and a dakota rear sight base and had it Cera-Koted and added a spacer and as thick a recoil pad as I could find to get close to my LOP. So my traditional three bolt gun battery is complete. 7x57 mauser, 9.3x62 parker hale project and not the 404 Ruger RMS.

Looks great Dave.(y)

Welcome to the 404J club.;)

Look forward to hearing how it shoots in Africa!:)

I am very jealous, I have a Brno ZKK 600 7x57 and a Mauser Oberndorf 9.3x62. I would love to have a .404 Jeffery. Yours looks lovely, what are you going to do for a front sling swivel?

What is the recoil system you refer to on this model. I have a .338 RSM and it has no system that I am aware of. What is the LOP now?

So.......when are we going shooting Dave?

looks great! i bet she will be a real sweet shooter.

now its time for something in .458", may i suggest a 458 Lott. (y)

@sestoppelman I would truly love to see detailed pictures of your 338! I have an affinity for the Ruger RSM's.

Hey Bob, there's that 404 J RSM we have been looking for. Wonder how much the gunsmith work totaled.

See what I can do this weekend. I snagged it at the LGS for a song! NIB about a year or so ago. Shoots like a dream too.

@matt85 I have to differ with you on this one. Check out what @AZDAVE doing here.......

A 458 can easily be bought ready to go and Dave is doing projects and in very traditional calibers. He could add a 416 Rigby but he has the 404... So it obvious that what he really needs next is a 505 Gibbs!

And the best part is he can simply buy a RSM in 416 Rigby for now, and then bore it out and re-chamber it to a 505 Gibbs when he is ready.

Bob you are correct, somehow i missed the traditional caliber detail. :E Doh:

going from a 404 Jeffery to a 505 Gibbs seems like a big jump. how about something in 450 NE 3.25"? a Ruger #1 in 458 WM could be converted to 450 NE 3.25" pretty easily i think. or if you wanna spend some real coin go for a double rifle in 450 or 470.

then after the 450 NE 3.25" he can get a 505 Gibbs. (y)

Actionbob I have a RMS in 416 Rigby, picked both RMS's up from a gent that had them as a pair, but didn't need another 375 and was missing a 404J. Problem solved. The barrel work from Pac Nor was $500-600ish and the rest of the work I did myself.
Sestoppelman In the attached pics it shows on the 375 take off barrel the lower rib I mentioned. The LOP is 14 3/4.
Matt85 Have a 450NE and ruger #1 in 500 NE because of Phoniex Phill have a 458B7M on order.
Phoniex Phil I need to look at the calendar and see when I can make it up your way. Will give you a call

then it sounds like you need something in .585". :D

anything that can be made into a 505 Gibbs can also be made into a 585 HE.

matt, I would love to have a 577NE double, but unless I win the lottery that isn't likely to happen.

Beautiful, for while there I was thinking of buying Matt's 375 H&H and having it redone to a 404 Jeffrey. Maybe one day I will go down that road. Congrats on the rifle, it looks nice.

Dave,

Would love to see photos of the 458B&M when it comes in. There must be something in that Arizona air about B&M's.:)

@AZDAVE is there any special reason you did not just have the old 375 barrel re-bored to a 404?

I'm very interested in this as I've been thinking of doing something similar. Unless I find a 404 to buy...

My .338 RSM does not have that under barrel rib. Smooth. Perhaps they only did that on the .375 and up models.

I had posted a link to one on GB for a really good price, but I think it got snagged as it didn't get relisted. Oh well.

If your talking about the CZ started at $2150 and wanting $2500 I was in contact with the guy several weeks ago. I did not like the way the wood looked but he claimed it was better than the pictures and said he would post better pics, but never did. He also could not tell me how it fed and wanted to allow only a day to check it out... Of course you need Ammo for that... Got a box delivered yesterday. So now I can play with the different magazines I have to see what works! And I'm prepared when the next one comes up for sale.

I'm considering a ZC if I can find one with wood similar to my 505 Gibbs. Otherwise seriously thinking of converting a Ruger RSM from a 375 to a 404... But would love to be able to keep the distinctive Quarter rib.

Ses is you 338 Win Mag a RSM starting with a 750 or 780 serial number or is it the Express model starting with 760?
