So assume you are the King of Angola. Here's the economics of this. People can snare 7 blue duiker and sell them for a total of about $100. All in. Or, how about this for a deal? You let someone like me come in and hunt them. I'll hire a bunch of local people, pay them for a week or so, let's assume a day rate of $500 (I'm being cheap - it would be more in a place like this), and then pay a trophy fee of about $1250 (what I paid in RSA - I'm not as good a negotiator as Wheels) - for one. And when I go, I'll probably leave a tip for everyone in the camp that is more than most of your loyal subjects make in a month. That's 7 days and a trophy fee. Almost $5000 for each one, or $35,000 for all seven.

So, just to be clear, it's no jobs and $100 on the one hand, and a bunch jobs and $35,000 on the other. And . . .wait for it . . . I pick no jobs!!!

Hi again Bossie;
Thanks for the updates! Keep in touch... Let me know when your ready to open hunting there, I'd love to sign up when you get giant sable populations to a huntable level! I do need several of the little critters yet as well.

Hank summed it up well! Obviously it will take some education to get the people to understand what a hunting industry can bring to their country, economies, and more importantly to their families!

Heck I bet Hank would even give them a good portion of the meat from his hunt... At least if he shoots something bigger than a blue duiker.

You can shoot the second one. It only makes sense that I take the first ROYAL Sable...

:E Happy:

Got me there Royal:cool: I got nothing to come back on that with.... Other than...... Let's Go! :P Elmer Fudd:

I think it's pretty clear that I'm a humanitarian. I will share the entire blue duiker.

Bushbuck for me.

Thank you for sharing the pictures!

Angola could be interesting. Keep safe. Thanks for the updates. Bruce

The ram all the way to the far right looks like it would be a very nice trophy. Best wishes in Angola. A couple years ago a friend of mine was part of a potential business venture in Luanda. We discussed hunting there and one thing was leading to another......but alas this is Africa and it soon died.

I have felt like if Angola would get itself straightened out and rid itself of the landmine problem, it could be quite the hunting destination. Particularly in the southeastern part of the country where Zambia / Caprivi Strip border Angola. I'd also have to think the ele's in Botswana could possibly find a better living in Angola if managed properly.

Thanks for all the pics. Interesting to see the bush meat markets. Can't believe they are not field dressed but I guess they eat it all!
Keep the posts coming.
Philip

Good to hear from you Bossie, thanks for checking in. Best wishes and stay in touch.

I think all of us will go a long way to have this little guy mounted on the wall.

I have been doing some research, I think this is an Harvey's Red Duiker. But what makes me wonder if it really could be, is the fact that I cant find any place on the internet where it is specified that Harvey's Red Duiker is found in Angola.
Any help here please guys.

Obviously some great potential there!

Are they snaring those critters or shooting them or what?

Hi Bossie , Man , that looks like a beautiful place ! One wonders just how much bush meat hunting these areas can sustain. Are they snaring them like down south ?

You can be like Dr. Gray and name it for your wife. You should call it Mrs. Mostert's Duiker.;)

SCI would back you. They would have a whole new category to charge for in the record book.

The guys that already have the Tiny 10 might be mad that they now have to get the Tiny 11.

At least your wife would be happy. A duiker is a lot more impressive than naming a star after her!

Just saying.

Hi Guys

Bob, I have only seen guys hunting them with Shotguns. There are talks about snares and I do believe there will be.
Royal, thanks for the info, I have read through some of it and it helps plenty. Thanks.
Wheels, that sounds like a great idea, since no one really knows what it is I should claim it.:ROFLMAO::LOL:
My wife might just love me more after that:love:

The game is taking a beating that's for sure, the sad part is these people are so uneducated that they do not see it that way. They can't do the calculation that one Duiker feeds one family for a week but a $1000.00 would feed them for a month. IT's JUST NOT IN THEM.
You guys would not believe it, but not ever a RAT is safe in this country.
I have seen them sell Cane Rats, Monkeys, Rats, Snakes and Squirrels. For those of us not used to it, its amazing.
Even the smallest fish will feed them.

Here is a Security Guard with a Squirrel that he was about to BBQ
