While waiting on our dip/pack/ship (for 3 hunters) I got an invoice from some taxidermist I'd never heard of for several thousand dollars. Thinking it may some sort of DBA type thing, I queried the man I knew to be handling our account. He'd never heard of them either.

This phantom taxidermist knew what trophies we had left, and was very close on the prices for such. Seems obvious to me that someone at the legit taxidermist was boot-legging info to a scam artist.

With any dealings of this sort -- but maybe, more especially, internationally -- no detail is too small to overlook.

Better luck to each of you.

Yes, this would be very bad to receive a taxidermy bill for your trophies....you pay it and it goes to the wrong person.

Thank you for informing us of this scam.

Please don't assume that it was someone at your taxidermist without proof ... in today's digital world it is MUCH more likely that an e-mail was hacked!

This is the type stuff we should all be very concerned about. I have used the same taxidermist two times now in SA and will do so again. We exchange information in person when he receives the order. Then I verify with him in two different ways when final payment is due.
Hackers and scam artist be damned !
Glad you caught this BB and thanks for sharing!

The next twist from the creative criminal.

Great warning. Double check ALL the details.

It is sad we have to watch our back so much now days. But that is the way it is.

Scott, you're right, of course.

Being an old codger a hack never occurred to me.

Thank you for that.

It never ends....

A phone call to them can save allot of money...

what was the phony taxidermy name?

This is the exact scenario we prevent. Our service protects the hunter by the constant and timely monitoring of your trophies while they are being processed. Being proactive is a deterrent to potential fraud.

Scams are everywhere but not that hard to prevent with out spending a penny. I stay in touch with my taxidermist with emails that take a minute to send and keeps us both on the same page. To man guys just wait for that email or call telling them everything is done. Just double checking with people being it your outfitter or taxidermist saves a lot of problems down the road.

Glad you caught this scam and did not lose any money.
