American woman killed in lion attack at lion park near Johannesburg

It is sad to hear and a terrible way to leave this life, but you just can't fix stupid.

I remember years ago near where I grew up a tourist figured it would be a great idea to feed a couple of grizzly cubs on the side of the highway. Momma had different ideas and charged.

Luckily (or so she though) the woman made it to the car and got the door closed before the bear reached her. At that point the bear proceeded to tear the lid off of this four wheeled sardine can (ripped the door clean off the car) and mauled the lady. Luckily she survived, the bear and her cubs were nearly destroyed over the incident but fortunately cooler heads prevailed.

I don't know where people get the idea that wildlife are all friendly pet type animals but once people lose their respect for these creatures it doesn't end well for either party.

That's unbelievable. Come pay to work for us doing crap jobs nobody wants. We'll give you one day off every two weeks and when you have timd off you can view the animals in cages. Sign me up!!!!!

ok @Johnny7604 but you have to pay me $1,000.00 per day and i want a $10,000.00 deposit first.........;)

That should really be posted in the "Great Deals" section, in fact maybe if your willing to keep this as an ongoing thing Jerome can make it a sticky!!! (y)

If wasn't planning another hunt over there I'd be all over that.o_O

I guess I took a slightly different method of learning about the critters.
I spent the time and energy to study and pass the PH course.
Not go pretend I was crushing through a zoo of tame animals...

Still shaking my head from this story.

Wonder if this was at Ukutula?

The lion park has been temporary closed now....

The lion park has been temporary closed now....

The only way to stop copy cats! (on both sides of the equation)

Absolutely amazing!

The latest from an Animal Behaviourist:

"The park's assistant operations manager Scott Simpson said the park had more than 40 signs with images and text warning visitors to keep their windows closed at all times when driving through the camps.

But, countered McKay, "Something as relatively innocuous as leaving your window down shouldn't result in death."

"I think to assume that everyone is going to follow the rules [is irresponsible]. Unfortunately human beings break the rules and this is not the first time there has been an incident. This is serious stuff, people are dying."

as sad as this interaction is for this girls family , friends , and anyone involved with the park ,including all the other visitors that day .
the fact that there has been other incidents ,in the past , should add to the fact that every, vehicle that use this attraction , should have their windows wound all the way up . and from prior posts , you really should have your doors locked aswell........
that's what air conditioners are for ..............

I suppose we shouldn't be surprised anymore by the lunacy of these idiots. Yet here I sit once again... :A Bang Head:

"As inoccuous as...................." You can't fix stupid.

It has become our society. Do what you want and blame it on someone else. Who new hot coffee was well.... Hot.

This.

No one takes responsibility for anything anymore and expects someone else to pay when something happens....

This is a sad situation that could have been avoided. No different than most other accidents.

I was walking through the local petrol station/gas station and noticed a magazine on the rack with a very nice picture of a Male Lion on the front cover. Eye catching to say the least.

Then I see the caption: LION WHISPERER
Meet the man who bonds with the King of the Beasts.

The Magazine is the Smithsonian.
I think what kind of article would be published in a magazine produced by this illustrious institution.

Save for the couple of comments from the author that are the classic generalization of canned hunting, etc. not as bad as I thought it might be at first.
Someone not liking canned hunting, so what. That is not news.
At least the article does not blame hunting for the demise of the wild lion. Habitat Loss is the issue!

Interesting notes:
"At first, Richardson didn't think about what became of the lions that aged out of petting and walking."

"None of the Cub World animals or any cubs .... were ever successfully introduced into the wild"

It sure tells me exactly how this guy and others playing with Lions like they are pets gets people, like the victim of this incident, showing up in South Africa wanting to emulate them.
