SOUTH AFRICA: Tootabi Hunting Safaris What Is The Wounded Policy And Billing Issues

Policies like this make me shake my head about our own policy that states that it is illegal to be accompanied by dogs while hunting (including retrieval). Birds and cats are exempted from this rule ..................

Derek, it is amazing that the Alberta laws prohibit dogs on big game, except Cougar. It does make you wonder when you look at other jurisdictions (Sweden, etc.) that rely on and even legislate the need to have a dog to follow up on wounded game.

Slow learners over here I guess.

PH's a getting tricky. Using Photoshop right in the field. :)

I just saw this, it's quite simple, and Loodt is aware of this otherwise it would not have been stated as such in a contractual agreement....

No blood no pay.... (There is no grey area) unless you wish to try your luck on a flying duck...

Merchandise, my daily rates and trophy fees are so high that I can give these away for free :) this was a question of pushing they're luck as well

Observer rates it's simple again @royal how many days did you hunt how many days did you observe?

Now the flip side could be that Loodt made the agreement but the bill was made by the accountant and proprietor of funds (who knows) in this case they need to sharpen up on their communications in house.

But 3 coincidences c'mon blatant contradictions on a bill....? Royal it should have been sorted there and then and then there would have been no need for this thread.

My best always

I know billc said Loodt is in N.Cape and has bad signal, if I was in his shoes I would have made a plan to respond. I learnt something new yesterday, if you click on a person profile it shows you that persons activity on AH, everytime I looked yesterday, Loodt was either watching the thread or busy in private conversation. Which makes me really wonder why isn't he replying.

I agree and have wondered the same thing.

When I was in SA in 2012 it was for an archery hunt and when I got there I was very excited that they were going to film the hunt from the blinds we were using. Went great for the first two animals and I got great coverage of my Blesbuck walking off and then even better if a gold Blue Wildebeest turning and dying in about 30 feet. Things changed when I shot my Impala and hit it high. Saw the arrow going into the bush behind him and said did I even hit him. I found out why they were filming the hunt. We didn't find any blood and didn't even look for the Impala but the PH pulled out the video and showed me that I hit it. Impala hunt over.View attachment 43364
A little higher and it would have dropped in its tracks. For the price I wish I would have shot another one.

perhaps the outfitter / owner had similar incidents and decided to do exactly this by filming all bow hunts? Not all hunts goes 100% and after a hunting season (with locals and international clientele) a lot of wounded animals do occur...

Videoing bow hunts is standard procedure for exactly these reasons... Good on him.

simon you been taking computer lessons of the expert Mr Brickburn by any chance? ;)

Hank2211,

I read your post with great interest and found myself agreeing with many of the points you have made.

I do hope your comment of Mr UK.... was not aimed at myself? If it was then I would ask you to back through and read my posts. When posting about missing and wounding animals I think you will find that I confessed to missing and wounding a few deer in my time. I would be the first to admit to my mistakes. My points were not made at Royal, but merely stating that through practice and ethical hunting the likely-hood of wounding and losing animal is greatly reduced. These comments were made as a general sweeping statement.

So as for this challenge not to miss on a blue duiker or another other African game for that matter. Well, I might miss yes, im only human. However, if your paying then challenge accepted (y)

We arrived on Friday, May 8, and departed on Thursday, May 21. The Chasing Dreams package, listed on this site, included eight total days (six hunting and two touring), plus we added four additional observer days for the two of us.

So in total, arrival day, twelve full days, and departure day.

To be extra clear - arrival and departure days were included in the package price.

I have only spoken to Loodt once. But with that said, I consider myself a good judge of character. In my humble opinion, he is a man of integrity and very sound character, excellent moral values, and most importantly, a fellow believer in Jesus Christ, that in itself, speaks volumes. Loodt is just a man, and men make mistakes, PERIOD! I am very confident though, a gentleman of Loodts qualities, did not make his decision, or any billing with any corrupt or malicious intent. I am also confident Loodt will somhow make this issue tolerable for both Royal and himself. Kevin

I'll join Beans and crawl out of my hole now.
Anyone with Beans experience and knowledge in this field is more than welcome to jump into any discussion on AH and share his insight.
Been there, done that and wrote home counts!

Cheap shot?
It is about money and professional judgment?
Apparently, the exercise of that same judgement has you personally wondering where to fill your dance card. o_O

If this is a rookie mistake and it turns out to be pricey "School Fees" so be it.
Suck it up and learn the lesson.

First off the difference is you posting on this thread it is no different then all the threads you post on. The perfect beans crawling out of his hole after not being on here for 3 month and posting next to nothing on other threads to help people. Clear as day to me why he is posting now and you and everyone else knows that. I see it as a cheap shoot maybe others dont and all are free to see it for what it is in there eyes. Does he have the right to do so you bet he does just as I have the right to say my piece about it.

Once again I will tell everyone who post on this thread I know more about what is going on then anyone other then royal and loodt. There is no guessing or wondering on my part. I have talked with royal well over 3 hours about this and had a small talk with loodt on PM. I have meet both in person and hope we all remain friends after this gets taken care of.
I am not taking either of there sides and have told them both that.Unlike a lot of guys I am very direct and say what I think which pisses a lot of people off. I will also say I am far from perfect have made mistakes and learn from them and moved on.

Some seem to act like I don't post on anything other then loodt or pieters post which I don't think is true. If I can help I do so and if in my eyes I see someone being treat wrong I say so. I have on this post said both are wrong and not playing favorites. Loodt has made rookie mistakes as well as most outfitters on here with the difference being there rookie mistakes were many years ago before must of us were on this site. There mistakes did not get put out for all to see. I for one don't think loodt is perfect or any other outfitter on here. If everyone thinks all the hunt reports on here tell the whole story your just kidding yourself.

As for loodt watching the thread and not saying anything. Very true fact and no secret at all. He has a cell phone and in an area with limited service which makes it to hard post. I know some feel he owes a post now which he does not. Making the choices he did to fast on this subject is what caused some of this problem. He owes it to royal to make this right not one of us really. No matter what happens at this point some have made there minds up already. If he refunds money now it will be said it is only being done because of this thread to save face. So no way to win really even if fixed the best way for hunter now. Because as some think it is all about money right. For those that think that you could not be more wrong. If you ask royal if he wants his money back or if the friendship was worth more to him you may think different.

AS for my dance card changing time will tell that. Do I want to hunt with loodt again answer is yes. If things don't change to were I am happy and think things are handled right then yes I am dancing some place else down in the cape. Difference is I will be fair and wait to see how this all works outs. I wont be one of those perfect people who look at this mistake any differently then mistake others make each day. Not one of the guys hoping something like this would happen will ever say so and trust me as many of us were hoping loodt would do well there was as many hoping he would fail.
As for (suck it up and learn the lessen) I have nothing to learn as I would not have let this happen to myself and sure as hell don't need anyone telling me to learn from this mistake. Some guys may believe a few walk on water on this site but I know we all will sink trying that me included.

To wrap this all up for me and from what I know. Royal had a good hunt took great animals. He loved the places they stayed and the food. He went in looking at this trip as one with a friend not as a client. He thought he was doing right by the choices he made kind of on the fly. Later realize he was wrong for doing so. Some other mistakes were made which made him really doubt he did right. Loodt took the easy way out using the friendship were he wanted to but kept it business like for other parts. Those mistakes equal bad stuff in the end. Royal did not speak up enough and loodt did not ask enough question to really find out if royal was truly 100% happy with his choices.

Lessen to be learned is a safari is a paid trip. We all want to be friends with are outfitters and PH's but business is business and must be handled like that when money is still involved. Very few people can pull both off both at the same time and make it work. Royal has learned something and loodt has also. It is my hope they can fix this and remain friends at some level because no matter what it will never be same no matter the outcome.

Funny, all those tricks of technology!

@billc , very well written post. But the part you state....."many would like to see him fail", I don't agree with that, I have posted on this thread to give my opinion on my thoughts, not to see someone fail. You right we all make mistakes, no one is perfect.

Not every sentence is about you!

Loodt and Royal are going to have to suck up the lesson. It's not my money, nor yours.
The rest of us are just watching the car crash and learning from it.

I have plenty to learn and continue to do so each and every day.

"Not one of the guys hoping something like this would happen will ever say so and trust me as many of us were hoping loodt would do well there was as many hoping he would fail."

bill i dont think any on here were looking for him to fail.....or i hope there werent? having been in that situation in another business where people seem to take pleasure in hoping it goes tits up, which it hasnt , pisses me off big time. i hope anyone that starts something does well and reaps the benefits, but maybe loodt has been trying to run before he can walk, with the amount of lower cost hunt offers he has been putting on the market in the relatively short time he has been operating?

Good to know. was not sure as you are much better on the computer then me and normally break everything down more I guess. I see that under a quote you use from me well I just answer what I see or try to.
Again no it is not my money and this is way beyond the money. maybe for some it would only be about the money but I know it is not only about that. I am not guessing on this subject just posting facts given to me by the people involved in the post.
