New Double .577NE | 600NE | 700NE

Adriaan , I'm no expert on doubles but I own a few and have been around plenty of them in hunting situations. Verney builds a fantastic bespoke rifle. In my humble opinion probably the only European double that falls into the English double class.
As far as caliber goes , I can tell you the 600 speaks with a hell of a lot more authority than a 500 or a 470. That said , recoil on a well built 600 is manageable. My 16 year old son shoots my 600 Verney -- accurately , offhand , without flinching. You should find it a breeze. Bjinse from Dzombo bullets is in the process of developing bullets for my 600 and the results so far are very promising. You're welcome to give me a call on 082 4577908 or e mail me at mwshumba@mweb.co.za

Happy hunting

i agree with you there jan about the V-C doubles being more like english doubles, especially there newer round action model. i have to keep myself control when i check them out at sci each year...........maybe one day......;)

There are only 3 good things to come out of England.

They are in order of importance:

1.) the Aston Martin

2.) Elizabeth Hurley

3.) the Holland and Holland.

I know the truth hurts Mike but it is what it is...
;)

My best always

4. Purdey
5. Rolls-Royce
6. Bentley
7. Webley revolvers
8. Jaguars (arguable..)
9. Land Rover (yes...yes arguable)

etc..

Kidding aside...I looked at a V-C round action in .450 NE, beautiful rifle..!

Pondoro, as I am of Austrian royal decent my post stands without contestation.

On Land Rover.....
A few years after the boers beat the English in the first boer war, the English vowed that they would one day, have their revenge...

They did as 15 years later the first Land Rover arrived in South Africa....

We have hated them since...

It's as simple as this, Germany supplied the boer militia with 7x57 Mauser bolt action rifles,.... While the English were still using martini rifles.
So all the Afrikaans boys commenting on the thread (which includes you Oom Jan!) should remember their history.... ;) :) :)

My best always

So after an interesting conversation with Mark Sullivan on doubles and makes the other day:

"my grandmother shoots a .500NE and a .470NE is great for squirrels or rabbits"... "I don't allow Blaser or Krieghoff in my camp" (due to the way the safety mechanism works).

I am stuck on the below: Hyem or Verney Carron in a .577NE
.577 NE more practical in performance/weight/handling than 600NE. Given the option I would rather shoot a 700NE than a 600 due to better powder burn/speed from 50MBG primer with Somchem powder (what we have in RSA). Rifle Weight difference between 600 and 700 will more or less be the same.

My choice will be 577NE

What are your thoughts if you were to buy a new double for dangerous game hunting?

.500 up is for cowards :sneaky::sneaky:

@ Jaco
the Author of this book (printed 1902) loved to things:
the burish horse
and the 7x57 Mauser repeating gun

o_O now is .500 ok or over the limit? as i have only just got my .500 jeff and dont want to have to get rid so soon.......;)

Spike I'm no Foxi but I reckon you're in the clear! :) ;)

I would pay good money to watch Sullivan's Grandmother shoot a .500 NE., and with the price of Nitro Express ammo, I sure wouldn't be shootin squirrels with one unless I was a wealthy eccentric.....which unfortunately I am not.:P Elmer Fudd:

Ms. Hurley from England.......yummy! :K Tongue:

Westley Richards is another excellent bi product of England

Shall I repeat?

Aston Martin

Elizabeth Hurley

Holland and Holland
