I have flown Delta in 2005 out of Atlana and United out of Washington in 2014. My question out of Atlanta it is saying 15hr flight on a Boeing 777-200 non-stop is there not a fuel stop? And is that flight operated by SAA?
When I flew United it was a lot better flight/food but it was also 9yrs apart times change. Any input would be great thanks in advance.

No fuel stop. Don't know anything about the food.

Badboy124 I have taken flight 200 two times before and will do so again in August. You are correct the flight is 15 hours non stop on A 777. That plane has a range of over 10,000 miles. If you fly business class which I highly recommend be prepared to be treated like a King. It has flat beds to sleep the flight away all the way to Joberg if you like. Great food and great service. I have my son going this time and bought him an Economy Comfort upgrade that was very reasonable. It is Delta operating the plane and food is great! No fuel stop at all. Hope that covers it.

I will be getting on Flt 200 tomorrow. As there are two of us flying, I cheaped-out and went with the cattle car seats. $1,300 x 2 is still a lot of coin!

I wonder how many on that flight will be on their way to a hunt??

The hunters will be in the queue entering the SAPS office. If you want, you can count them.:D

Have a great hunt. Look forward to hearing about it!(y)

Haha....I am hoping Riflepermits.com get me through there so fast I won't have time to count them all! ;)

Good luck Tarbe and I hope you have a great hunt.

Have a great trip Tarbe! Can't wait to see the pics :)

Tarbe,
Great rate those seats at $1300 each, when did you book? Been checking and have not seen it that low. Good luck...safe flight.

They did for me! I literally was in and out in less than a minute because they were trying to get me to my connecting flight. The place was pretty busy though.

Thanks all - on way to the airport now!

Got my tickets 10 months ago.

Tim

I would be curious to know what everyone is paying for flight 200. I booked in February 2014 for a flight in October 2014. Paid $1396.

I took the Dallas-Atlanta-J'Burg flight, returning about 3 weeks ago. I purchased my tickets (or had Steve at TWG do it for me), with the EC upgrade, row 29 on the bulkhead both ways, for $1260 total round trip.

How was your seats/experience in EC? Recommend? if so, particular seats?

Row 29, Economy Comfort Delta 200/201 for me as well. Purchased end of January for travel in August & September of this year. Cost was about $1900 total for Boise - SLC - Atlanta - JoBerg then return reverse route. I went through Annelise at Areva Travel. She and Brenda have been great to work with.

Had EC last year cattle class this year. Honestly not much of a difference. Business class is fantastic but I will never be able to afford it and you can have two hunts for the price of 1 business class ticket

They know who to bribe that is for sure

As an alternative: check out emirates.

They fly from other U.S. Locations to Dubai and then on to Jo'burg.

Reasons they seem to rock:

1.) top 5 airline globally
2.) miles can be exchanged for miles on Alaska air that can then be redeemed by lots of US carriers
3.) cheaper flights
4.) business class tickets are the least expensive anywhere, often the price of maybe 150% of coach, not 500%
5.) their flights often work out so you don't have to overnight in Jo'burg
6.) no connections in Dakar where there is a chance of Ebola causing a flight cancellation due to pandemic

I will respectfully disagree about the EC seats and cattle class being "not much difference", especially on Row 29, which i highly recommend. I like window seats because I don't have to get up a whole lot. I had seat 29A going over, which has probably 3 ft of legroom in front of you, and had 20J coming back, which has even more leg room. Getting in and out was easy when I did decide to get up and move around.
