Solid color or camo? Traditional or modern stylings?

Do you prefer to wear camo or just solid colors when hunting? I was always partial to muted solid colors (khaki, od green, etc.) Also, if you showed up in Africa wearing one of those traditional khaki safari jackets, will your PH laugh you out of the continent? Just trying to avoid making a fool out of myself :)

I plan on wearing both solids and camo during my upcoming hunt and perhaps both at the same time.

As for what the PH thinks, I really don't care. I have been laughed at before and will be again. If you can't laugh at yourself you are in big trouble.

Unless you are bow hunting out in the open I don't see where it matters. Even those bow hunters that wear camo and face paint while in a blind get laughed at.

I can laugh at myself, but somewhere along the way I decided other's opinions are more important than they are. Good points.

Where what you feel like! I wear solids out of country mostly, camo at home. I would just stay away from a half shirt and ass-less chaps due to the black thorn! Lol.

We used camo. The tracker had a blue coveralls. The PH had tan usually. We did all spot and stalk so not sure how much the camo helped. If you pick solid colors I suggest you avoid bright florescent orange or green. :)

Thanks for the advice, but I couldn't possibly go without my tube top

I am not a big fan of camo. For hunting, it don't thing it really help so I think it's just a matter of personal preference. So I like the classic look.

I too was afraid to show up on my first Safari with the classic hunting jacket and a pith helmet. Then again I was following in the footsteps of @billc and his pink shirts so I am sure it wouldn't be a problem. :A Haha:

Plain colours for me. Can be utilised everywhere and more acceptable when going out and about than the sniper issue ghillie realtree bodysuit.

On a personal level I prefer a traditional look as the true pioneers of the hunting safari would've worn back in the day.

It sounds weird but I also feel it puts me on more level terms with what I'm hunting.
Negligible I know but personally I think plain colours over cammo makes the challenge of getting close to your quarry that little bit more interesting.

Not knocking anyone at all who cammos up, it's just not for me.

Besides, no point me dressing up like a camouflaged ninja when the tracker is sporting a bright blue boiler suit and red baseball cap!

Solid colours are fine. Olives, dark browns and Khakis are great, light Khaki tends to stand out a bit. Dark pants work best with Olive colour shirts,or Olive and olive. It's more the movement that gives you away than the colour. That being said if you want to poke the Kudu with the barrel first a leafy top goes a long way to helping.

I don't think you can legally wear camo in zim either? I might be wrong

Techincally, you can't wear "military style" camo in Zimbabwe. But since few people seem to know exactly what that is, and even fewer want to have a discussion with any type of Zimbabwean official (with good reason), you are told that camo is illegal in Zimbabwe. That doesn't mean that you won't see a tracker or someone else wearing camo in a hunting area. I have always assumed the locals are more willing to have the aforementioned discussions, and since none of them have any money anyway, the discussions are likely relatively short.

Anything but pink !

Now seriously, dark green or brown are fine. I do wear a realtree jacket if it´s cold.

I guess the easy way to decide is to look through all the photos posted on the forum and see that is doesn't really matter as long as you keep it sensible. Personal preference and practicality matter more than what is perceived as the 'right' or fashionable thing to do.

I like my khaki safari jacket with cartridge loops....and khaki trousers..

I can't wait to post a pic of me with some critter, with me wearing my signature BillC pink Tootabi shirt.

I have few "goals" for this trip coming up. One of them is to stalk and take a critter while wearing my pink BillC shirt.

The other is to stalk a take a critter in my deerskin loincloth. ;)

Wear what you want but I have taken both to South Africa
