Hi everyone, I was looking around online and stumbled upon some new cz 550 fs in 9.3x62. I haven't seen these produced and out in circulation for a while so I jumped on it. I've been shooting my ruger no.1 in 9.3x74r a lot lately and have really grown to love the 9.3 caliber. Now I'm looking for what scope I want to put on it. I will probably stick with a lower power option, something in the 2-7x range but am open to suggestions. I'm looking forward to having a bolt action counterpart to my 74r. I will be doing a little range report as soon as I get everything in. I'm graduating from college next weekend so I can start saving more money for my first safari!

Thanks,
Voodooracer

Amd since you're young we know you know how to take pics from your phone and post them online. So.... PICS!!!!

I'm going to go all Velo Dog on you on the scope selection. Why not just a clean looking straight 4x?

Hahaha as soon as I pick it up from my ffl I will! It probably won't come in until next week unfortunately, I've never been patient when it comes to waiting for guns haha. I've considered going with a 1.5-5x or even a 1.75-6x, the 2-7x is about the max I'd want to go. I do like having a nice clean scope to match the lines of the rifle. I like having the option of more or less magnification if I need it. Ideally I'd like to be able to reach out to 200 or 250 yards or so with it.

Any of those scopes will reach that far, as you know. We way over think scopes and Velo is right in his opinion of the 4x scope, but dang it is fun to disagree with him!!!

What would you like to hunt with it? 2x at the low end is plenty in most situations. IMO.

I'd like to use it on the heavier plains game in Africa, say 400lb animals on up. In North America is like to try using it on deer, wild boar, and black bear. In terms of scope I generally use Leupold, I've had great luck with them over the years and have a lot of confidence in them.

You can get a better scope than Leupold, but you can't go wrong with one!!! I own a couple of them and have always loved them. Can't wait to see what you do.

I agree, on my current budget the Leupolds are a great buy for the money. I generally try to get the best glass I can afford on a gun and haven't been let down yet. Thanks, I'm looking forward to this little project haha!

I recently purchased a 3-9x42 Meopta from the Czech Republic and so far I really like it. It currently resides on my CZ 7x57, which is pretty appropriate. I may have to get another for a more recently purchased CZ 9.3x62...

Interesting, I don't know too much about that brand. That's great that it is working well for you!

First one I have had as well. I usually prefer Zeiss to Leupold, I think they have better glass. There are some on here that don't think much of the Conquest but I have had several and none had issues.

Meopta is a Czech company that was renamed after WW2. It was originally called Opticotechnica and has been producing military optics, including sniper scopes, since at least the 1930s. I have yet to buy or use one but everyone who has them seems to be happy with their purchases.

congrats on your new rifle, and good taste in calibres (y) i have an old pecar 1.5-4x24 on my heym 9.3x62 . they are not around anymore, and i would probably go for something in the 2-7 or 1.5-6 variable range now.

My 9.3x62 (custom built 98 Mauser) had a 4x Kahles in older model Talley QD bases and low rings but, I took it off to have a non-shiny finish applied to the rifle.

(Due to my humble income, I've had to have this rifle built in stages over a several year span.)

This Kahles scope worked perfect but is cosmetically not so handsome (dents & scratches) and looks odd on such a near perfect looking custom rifle, fancy wood, etc. so, I might either try to have it restored before putting it back on said rifle or, if I replace it, I will put a 4x Zeiss on this very special rifle.

I have two Zeiss 4x scopes in storage, one is an older discontinued version (1980s ?) with the rubber sleeve over the forward bell and the other is the more recent but also discontinued Conquest version.

Both Zeiss mentioned are in 100% condition (the Conquest is still new in the box) so, either would look proper on this 9.3 for sure.

If you like variable power scopes, I would agree with those here who have already suggested that you go for a lower powered one such as a 1 to 4x or 1.5 to 5x or similar sizes and mount it low down, close to the bore.

See @Voodooracer , I told you I was going all @Velo Dog on you!!! Even his variable scopes end in 4x!!! :E Big Grin::A Outta:

Thanks for the advice guys! Fortunately I have some time to decide before the rifle gets here. Those are some gorgeous rifles Mannlicher!! Thanks Velo Dog, that is some great advice, I'm looking forward to doing some hunting with it.
