I guess this question goes out more to the Ph's here. I have a leopard hunt booked for this year and am being charged only for 5 day's of pre baiting, the other 12 days bait is included. My question is simple, How do I know if the PH is indeed pre baiting? Or this this on the honor system? Thanks.

If you can't trust the Outfitter and PH you are screwed already.

Getting those trail cam pictures of the big fat Leopard sitting on a bait is one way that is a kind of interesting method of seeing if it is working. :)

Its in ,both his and your best interest to do this , and hopefully to have a cat or two on bait before ,before you arrive
From what ive read about , leopard hunting , its a tuff hunt , and jaco once said , that pre baiting , reallly is a must
I ,know nothing of leopard hunting.
But try to read everything i can about it

Your right Brick..But hey who knows? Maybe he baits one day? I do trust my PH as they have been around a long time and having a client shoot a leopard is great publicity.

Like blue said it is in their interest to get you a Leopard.

You havnt rambled , nor sounded like a fool

So right you are. After hunting extensively thru out the U.S. Alaska Canada and NZ, I am finally bringing a dream that I thought would NEVER happen to life. Not being a "high end" client has it's draw backs for sure but with dogged persistence and a big dream I can only thank the good lord for this opportunity.

High end?
Just being a good bloke , that works hard to save for these hunting adventures
Ensures ,you will , cherish the experince ,and love/ enjoy it will , whether your first leopard, is a succsess ,or your third or fourth, its going to be an animal you and P.H
Will have to work hard for
I cant wait to read of the highs and lows,of this adventure
In australia ,you cant bring a leopard home , so its something i will only ever get to enjoy through , bloke like yourself and other fellas

Thank you. I look forward to reporting on a very successful hunt! God willing! Hope to Also add some plains game too. September can't come fast enough

My philosophy is that pre baiting should be what it's say, and if they baiting it for 6 month or 5 days it's not your concern, pre baiting should hold a Tom cat in other wise it's something wrong with the area or with the organization/planing.

Hope they not also will charge you for the Gin/Tonic :)

Remember that on a open concession it's really do not matter for the outfitter to pre bating some cats or if the cats catching the impalas them self, and on a pre baiting hunt you most of the time already pay a higher price... so I will say it's out of question to ask a client for any kind of fees for game connected to a baited hunt.

Good luck.

Johnnyblues, it's all about honesty, and really wanting the client to get his leopard.

Yes sir I agree. I realize that they are there to make money and honestly for me there should be no reason to charge for pre bait. Or for that matter baiting at all. It should be inclusive as my hunt is for the 12 day's I will hunt with them. I think there is always plenty of game to use for bait from other clients. The reason I have stared this thread is during my negotiation with them I made notes that all baits pre and post were to be included. I guess in my excitement when I was e mailed the contract I didn't notice they were charging me for 5 days of pre baiting at $250 per day. This is a well known and long time outfit in Namibia. I did e mail them and asked for clarification and was told they do usually charge 5 days of pre baiting. They did offer to pre bait free of charge for 3 day's, again I asked for clarification and asked am I paying for the other 2? I did tell them if this charge comes off they will only be getting it back as I will add another plains game trophy to the safari.

I agree. They have been in Namibia for 3 generations and one would have to assume they are reputable and honest to survive that long. Their references were outstanding.

Pre baiting can be expensive in some areas, most of our leopard baits are at least an hour from camp, fuel in these remote areas costs big...but all areas vary..

I understand...I guess he is trying to do the right thing by offering 3 days free of charge. I just want to know if I owe him for 2 more days or we will just pre bait for 3 day's. I just don't know if it's absolutely necessary to have a full 5 day's of baiting or not.

Simon, yes long distances to driving etc. for sure, but I really hate when it's time to clarify for a client what all extra here and there is, better to cover this expenses in the base price and
then it's no discussions, this is why I ask you Johnny if you have to pay extra for the G/T ?? Some outfitters today have guts to charge premium high prices up in Tanzania with $3000/day
but alcohol and wine for the dinners is not included..:mad::oops:.........

That's plain crazy. 3k a day. If I won the lottery I would not pay that. Just on principal.
