What Have You Killed with the 7x57

I used the 7x57 extensively when I was a boy and still do till this day. Found that it works best with the 140gr and then in the thick bush i use the 175gr bullets because I like the penetration I get with them.
Looking for a nice one here in the States.
+200 African plains game/cats with the 7mm mauser.

Hello,

I use the 7x57 since 1970. Here in Argentina. I have hunted with this great cartridge with a Mauser 98 rifle (1935) almost everything to be hunted: Corzuela (Brocket Deer), Javelina, Wild Boar, Guanaco, Axis Deer, Red Deer and Wild Cattle.
This is my Best Red Deer from 2011. Massive head from an old one, aprox. 14 years old. The rifle, Schmidt & Bender 1,5-6x42 scope and 175 Nosler Partition at 2650 f/s muzzle velocity (entirely safe in a good Mauser 98 with the original barrel....).

I also like Gerrit's 7x57 and have used it on animals up to kudu. My 7x57 kudu is smaller though.

He keeps the big ones for himself!:D:D:D

My Musgrave in 7x57 killed countless Kudu, Impala, springbuck , bush buck and wildebeest. Sold it when we immigrated - still regret that!

Today I have a 7x64 to fill that role, and I really like that calibre.

I really like this caliber as well. Good power for clean kills and almost non-existent recoil.

I have a beautiful Custom rifle built on a 1909 Argentine Mauser action in the African style with banded front sight and quarter rib rear and nice dark streaked wood. So far, I have take a very nice (183" B&C) whitetail deer in the US and a 41" Sable in RSA with it. I planned to hunt more plains game with it when I was in South Africa last year but an opportunity came up for a Cape Buffalo so that hunt ended up superceding several of the plains game species that I planned on hunting. Thus, my 416 RM ended up getting a lot more work than I had planned.

These aren't the best trophy pics since they are low light and taken with a cell phone but they are the best that I have which include the rifle:

Nice animals Vette,

I see your from Oklahoma. I'm from Edmond. Are those Oklahoma bucks? Kind of looks like your in texas on the deer.

Good looking rifle.

All the best.

Thanks for the compliments. Wheels, we are very close to each other if you are in Edmond. You are correct that the deer is a South Texas deer. I have not seen many deer of that size on the hoof but especially not in OK although we do have some pretty nice whitetail hunting here. The Sable was from the Free State in South Africa.

Lrich, I used 140 gr bullets for my hunting with the 7x57. I have some 175s that I would like to try as well but have not had a chance yet.

A nice Waterbuck shot along the Mamba River in Limpopo Province in 2014. The rifle used is an early 1950's Fn Supreme DeLuxe utilizing a Hornady 175 gr RNSP bullet at approximately 2550 f/ps. Distance was about 110 yards.

A great calibre for the African Bushveld!
