This will be interesting. I just booked Air France and SAA. It will be my last trip on SAA if this does not change.

SAA CARGO PLACED A TOTAL EMBARGO ON TRANSPORTATION OF HUNTING TROPHIES

South African Cargo has taken a decision to place a total embargo on the transportation of hunting trophies (Rhino, Elephant, Lion and Tiger) on its services worldwide. This embargo is with immediate effect.

Please also know that no exceptions will be made even if the shipper has a valid permit issued by the relevant authorities.

PHASA is attending to this as a matter of urgency and will keep members informed.

ha ha ha ha , the whole world is loosing its shit.................

That's the truth . . . and it's losing its shit too. :A Stars:

All my stuff already flies out on one of two other airlines anyway, BUT I will certainly be joining Mike in altering my choice of airline.

Wow. I'm sure hunters are not the sole source of SAA sales, but it's got to be a significant source or revenue.

I'm still trying to figure out if this is "April Fools" day on the other side of the world. o_O

Between airlines which won't take guns and now this, life is quickly becoming more difficult.

Bottom line is that hunters and outfitters need to show airlines that there are consequences to decisions.

Problem, of course, is that especially in SA, there is often little or no choice of carrier in-country.

I have had no problem with Delta air John

It is almost like a cruel April Fools Day joke.

The Hunting Report article downplays it some because most cargo shipments are on Delta. What about the trophies from Zambia and Zimbabwe? Delta does not fly there.

SAA Bans Trophy Shipments of Lion, Rhino & Elephant
(posted April 24, 2015)

At this writing, rumors are swirling around a South African Airways Cargo ban on some or all trophy shipments. What you've heard depends on who you are talking to. Some of the rumors stated that SAA Cargo categorically banned all trophy shipments aboard their aircraft. More plausible sources told us that the ban will only affect lion, "tiger," rhino and elephant trophies. Of course, there is no trophy hunting of tigers.

At this writing, there is no information at all on any ban on the SAA Cargo website, but we did some digging and obtained a copy of the relevant internal document shown here.

What, precisely, this means for hunters is still unclear.

First of all, SAA handles only a small portion of the trophy shipments flown out of South Africa (Delta is a far larger player.)

Second, it's unclear whether this document refers to all hunting trophies or just the four mentioned, and what is meant by "tiger," since there are none in South Africa.

We're trying to get a clearer picture, but, for now, it seems clear that shippers in South Africa are aware of the issues involved and have alternatives. If you have trophies in South Africa awaiting shipment, check with your shipper to see if this will have any impact. Stay tuned.

All of my shipments have gone Cargolux, since they are apparently cheaper and easier to deal with than the commercial airlines. Hopefully this doesn't start a trend.

If this crap gets worse, we may all have to coordinate our hunts and charter a full plane over.

Never heard of them..Are they a small independent carrier? do they fly into JFK, Atlanta, Etc..

Cargolux is actually the largest cargo airline in Europe, I think, and one of the biggest in the world. Fly a fleet of all-cargo 747's, and use Luxembourg as a base. I live in Calgary, Canada, and trophies go from Jo'burg to Luxembourg non-stop, and then directly from there to Calgary (easier than flying personally!). Depending on what you have - especially CITES App. 1 - being able to avoid your trophies going through the US and almost every European country is a huge advantage.

I see they fly into JFK... Going to ask my importer if he ever uses them..

The Government ministers over there need to wake up. A big portion of revenue is derived from hunting. I wonder where it ranks n GDP for South Africa? Not that I had intentions of flying SAA.....why the hell would I when Delta is ready when I am, but this would make me look elsewhere. With trophy shipment permits a problem, crooked cop road blocks in the country side and prices going up up and up......me thinks they are trying to kill the goose that laid the golden egg.

Your right Charlie, this is what happens when liberals take hold. We see it here and all over the world.

My shipments went by sea the last time. No problems.

Mine went by sea as well. Less expensive. I think it was a month in shipment but I may be wrong. Longer than a plane for sure but I'm not in any rush.
