New Hunting Accessory: The Big Five Up In Smoke

Impressive work.

Thanks for showing the pipe to us.

Thanks! I don't have TV up here so this is the evening past time... And AH of course on the smartphone. Unfortunately the smartphone is also the only camera I have, and it muddies the detail, but hopefully the idea comes through.

Funny how things have changed. If it wasn't for my wife I'd get rid of all the TV (I'm embarrassed at how many we have....), but I ain't giving up my smartphone!!!! :E Crying:

I have My Grandfathers stashed away, used to watch him smoke it as he watched the wrestling matches on the old black and white TV he had

Little more detail pics and more finish went on today,

The more i look at it the buff is my favorite. For me, you've caught that look of "I don't like you and you owe me money!"

Thanks! Appreciate the comment as it's my favourite too. He was also the most challenging to carve, due to the aspect. If you look closely his head and his butt are only a bit more than a 1/16" different in depth I imagine. Had to create the illusion of depth by shrinking everything back from the head gradually. His back leg's much smaller than his head, and thankfully all the guessing worked out. Took a bit of a gamble trying to carve an animal in a different aspect, and think it worked.

As a side note it's not completely done, going to give them red garnet eyes. The garnets are worthless little gemstones the size of ballpoint pen tips, but very ruby red and rather pretty, we get loads of them in the sluice box when sluicing for gold.

I too am a fellow pipe smoker and enjoy the odd cigar. I have always felt that a cigarette can be equated to having a one night stand. A cigar is a lover that you go back to from time to time as the mood takes you. And last but not least the dependable pipe. When you see it and pick it up to charge with your favourite blend its like a long, happy and contented marriage (if anyone knows how to have one do share)!! But very cool pipe you've made there how does it smoke??

Awesome work!My hands are pretty much up to shooting guns and cracking 15 year old Brandy bottle tops and not much else. Envy a man that can create something all on his own.

Ardent - I've always appreciated wood carving and yours is really nice. Thanks for sharing. John

Norfolk you certainly appear to appreciate the "small ritual" of the pipe, and it smokes very nicely. The center rough "hill" which will not show well in photos is supposed to be the volcano wrapped in the forest and animals.

Hunthard I can't fault you there, I'm a scotch fan but couldn't say no to good brandy. Appreciate the kind words, was nice having something to show for the relaxing time. I make rifle stocks and this was a nice step off the path as I could do it at the desk, not the workbench.

Thanks for the kind words as well John.

Few more tweaks, a little more finishing, I cut spiral grooves on the stem as a little flair.

truly outstanding!

thank your for sharing!

Norfolk Shooter - What in God's name are you wearing on your feet? If these are the best, esoteric footgear for hunting and trekking long miles please share with us!

They are perfect to go traipsing for many miles in San Tropez , Monaco and other such locations. I find them very comfortable and wear them to take the dogs out in the summer and go shooting on the range (as can be seen)!!!
