Am I the only one who has a dream of going to Africa for a ten day kudu only hunt? This would not be for only one but as many or few as I desire. Granted if another snorter species crossed my path I would be open to hunting it but the primary hunt would be kudu only. After my last hunt and seeing nice bulls in many different habitats I might consider this to be one of my upcoming hunts. Does anyone else feel this way?

No.

But seriously, I'm like a kid in a candy shop once I'm there (see last hunt report for proof). The thought of one species never occurred to me (at least not in RSA).

That is just it. There are a ton of species there but kudu hold a special place with me. I love where they are hunted and how they are hunted. I was just wondering if I am the only person with a kudu only hunt dream.

I love Kudu hunting and have repeatedly spent many days solely focused on them. (passing on other species in order not to spook the big guy out of the country side.
Passing on multiple Kudu over a hunt waiting for THE one, for sure.

I have also been unbelievably lucky with Kudu.

If you love Kudu hunting, why not.

And with a hunt like this why stop at just one or five?

I have been searching for that magical 55 plus wide Kudu for many years to no avail. I am going to try to do a 10-14 day Kudu only safari next May in Limpopo with a goal of securing this caliber of beast or nothing at all.

So someone else has my dream

dave I may not be able to let you do this hunt. Your kudu card is all used up after letting a 50"plus free range cape kudu walk off in to the bush.

Hunting 2 or 3 kudu or even eland on one trip could be fun but dam all that other fun stuff is out running around to. I am not sure I could just hunt one kind of plains game animal on a trip. It would be some fun hunting though

I was told he measured 53". Not too shabby for a cape kudu. Another hunter shot him in the same valley that we spotted him in.

Join the club Warbird .
Im off to Namibia in june to hunt Kudu for 16 days .
Im going to take two ,the first will be a good rep and the second will have to be a ripper before ill take it .
I will shoot a few other animals but not to worried .
I didn't think i would find an outfitter that would won't me if i only wanted to shoot 2 animals in 16 days .
Thats the only reason I'm taking a few more animals .
Its kudu I've dreamed about for the last couple of years and thats what the hunt is all about .
Cheers Dory .

Warbird 782, I think we share the same passion... If there is one animal I had to choose to hunt all the time, it would be Kudu, hands down... They're hard to hunt, shy, elusive and plainly awesome! Its all worth it to go on a 10 day hunt in search of a monster, and when you eventually find it, he'll take your breath away!!!

Hope i can post some photos of awesome Kudu soon .

There is something special about hunting the spiral horns.. Almost as good as hunting pigs!

I was not fortunate enough to find a shooter while I was in Africa, just one more reason to go back.

I think there must be something wrong with me, as Kudu were not on my list to hunt on my first trip to Africa and they are not on my wish list for when I plan to go back again either.. :A Blink: I do think they look stunning but everyone who goes wants a big Kudu maybe I just want to be different, or maybe i'm waiting till I can afford to hunt one and have it mounted, I cant decide.

You do need serious counseling.

With regard to multiple kudu, make sure you have an outfitter who truly will support your goal. Big mature bulls are a bit like big elk - even free range areas will only have so many and those on high- fenced properties are absolutely finite. Your PH has others hunters coming out who will also dream of those spiral horns. Also, a lot of areas have been really hit by the rabies epidemic - particularly in Namibia. A lot of outfitters are self-limiting their quotas to help the herds bounce back.

Warbird,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. That is a very nice Cape Kudu and I'm not one for inches, but there is no way that Kudu is near 53". Maybe 43".

Well done of a a magnificent animal.

I have only been on two hunts to Africa and taken 23 animals/15 species. The kudu still ranks on top for pg species. I think even a split trip between the Limpopo and Cape might be in order. If in the Limpopo I would have to add a bushbuck to go with my cape bushbucks. The kudu is an all around great hunt.

@UKHunter wait until you see one in person! If a nice one steps out it is very hard to not pull the trigger. Good luck with that!
