SOUTH AFRICA: Tootabi Lioness & PG Hunt My Return To The Wait a Minute Bush

This sounds like it was the trip of a lifetime. Loved that huge Gemsbuck. Nice looking eland and that lioness is just beautiful. You packed a lot into your trip. They came through for you in a huge way. Bruce

Your report says a lot about Loodt and his operation . It was good to see a Pieter get in some of the pictures. Thanks for sharing with us all.

Yes Bluey the snake will be coming home to America with me.

That would make a great mount. Especially if used subtly as a piece of habitat on a lifesize mount.

That made me think....

I wonder what Dennis could do with that snake and the lioness in the same mount???

Anything you want lol. A neat mount would have the lioness stepping over a branch and the snake curled up in leaf litter half under it, not real obvious just like everyone dreads!

I retrospect Dennis would probably mount the Lioness jumping back as the snake struck and the entire mount would be supported through the snake :)

Or the cat seeing it and staring intensely at it with one of those "Oh, what's that??? Should I play with it????" looks that only a cat can get!!! :)

Only if you coundnt see it until you saw it., hidden in plain sight, just like the first scenario.

Sorry guys the puff adder will not be a mount. I am just having the skin tanned.

Day 7: We spent the morning collecting all of the game and trophies and headed back to the Tootabi Lodge. We took time to get our gear organized and get ourselves cleaned up. This day was kind of a down day to rest as we had all pushed ourselves hard. Later in the day we all decided that a game drive at Schotia Safaris would be kind of fun just to view game including members of the dangerous 7. I really appreciated this as I like to shoot with my Canon almost as much as any gun. We had some close encounters with them including a rhino who took exception to our bakkie. She decided to use the front grill guard as a sparring partner with all of us in it. It was amazing how she pushed the bakkie around. This was a once in a million opportunity to be in a bakkie with a rhino sparring with it! We were able to see numerous plains game and 6 of the dangerous 7. The photo safari ended with a great meal of African flare at their lodge.View attachment 39944

Thanks again for a great report and photos! I still have 148 days until I head over for my first trip, 14 days of plains game bliss. As most have stated, I'm already planning my 2nd trip, while the first is 5 months out. :A Rock:

Dave since we both have hunted there and you know one of the best parts now that neither of us can share. Can you just think how much must of the guys would enjoy the surprise loodt and family do for there guest. I enjoyed that night as much as the hunt and he seems to have even taken it up a notch. The bonus of being a tootabi client I guess and welcome to that club.

Loodt great job and I will keep that secret in the tootabi family.

So long as the above doesn't involve any of those pink undergarments that you posted about............ I guess I will find out in August!

haha no pink around during the special night you get there. Maybe if you ask nice loodt will wear that nice pink tee shirt for you.

I had put my first safari on the back burner, but reading reports like this sure make me feel like I am missing out on a great experience. I may have to reevaluate/prioritize…so much one wants to do and experience and sooo little time…..

Thanks for sharing, looks like you all had a ball…beautiful animals!

Kind regards.

Awesome Report Warbird!! I am taking my son( and a couple of husband and wife teams) on his first African hunt in June of 2016 for his high school graduation present. We are going to hunt with Loodt at Tootabi! I've forwarded this post to everyone in our group. It just confirms what I had researched about Tootabi and then some. If this doesn't get you excited(for both hunters and observers) I don't know what will.
A couple of us are going to try our hand at bow hunting with Loodt as well. I've been on 2 South African safaris and I don't think I've ever been this excited.
Thanks again for such a great detailed report!!

Thank you @Hunt4Him! I will gladly take any questions from you or any member of your group about the hunt. Just do not ask about the surprise that Loodt has for his guests. That is best left alone as it is worth it! You will have a great time.

David - great report and congratulations on your adventure!

Loodt, Pieter & Companies - you guys are awesome!

My two-day stay with Loodt in January (side trip from a business trip) allows me to say that David's experience of hospitality is no fluke. The Buchner's are genuine and great people. If you don't love them after staying with them, then you are the problem! :)

35 days until wheels up to Tootabi!

Tim
