Snakes in April

I have hunted in April, May, October, November, December and have seen few snakes. I have never killed one in Africa.

Gordon,

He does not fear snakes, but has a healthy dose of respect. Black Mambas, forest cobras, etc he will handle them all.

It is amazing how large some of these snakes are.

that is one angry looking reptile

Our PH Hendrik Kotze picked up a live puffadder we came across in Namibia last easter...took some pics..

He shrugged when I argued it was a loong ride to medical facilities....his decision though..

unbelieavable how , some fellas are so relaxed about playing with a poisonous reptile that just wants to left alone .
and can ruin your whole day if you upset it ....

I don't think anyone could pay me enough to pick up a deadly snake. Bad kharma!

Don't care for snakes and sure wasn't impressed when this dam thing came at us while we were sitting in a tent blind ..... my PH said if it comes in here you'll have to shoot it ..... my response was hell no you're the one with the gun!

When I opened your photo, it shows someone holding a big black snake, and a photo of a big lizard

some kind of monitor lizard, hes sinister looking but harmless, same as our goannas, just spew and piss all over you ,if threatened.
6 footer is a big lizard.

Funny thing about the law of averages.

Some hunters have been on safari many times and never seen a snake.

Then there are guys like me who've been once and seen too many :A Outta:

It had been by all accounts an extremely wet April 2010 in the Limpopo.

The crew played a dirty trick on me with the Puff Adder.

A Marshall's Eagle ate the business end of this Cobra before flying away and leaving the good half.

Like I've said, I'm not scared of snakes at all. That being said, I'm not picking up a poisonous one either! I know my limitations and for me personally there is just no reason to do it.

Never mind the rest of the day, they can ruin the rest of your life... all 15 minutes of it!

Very cool monitor lizard. My wife would definitely be out playing with it in an instant!

Hey Bluey, I think a few of these blokes need to come and hunt Australia - home of 9 of the top 10 venemous snakes in the world ;)

blacks

ha h aH AH , yeah
lm still mortally terrified of the bloody things, even red belly blacksnakes ,put the creeps in me , blacks

Haha yeah I hate the bloody things too....so far so good this season, last rut I bloody near trod on a huge tiger sunning himself on the edge of a wombat hole...that got me mobile!

blacks

tigers and browns are the ones , that l fear more anything , at home .
ive never come across a tiapan , and really don't ever want to
at least in march/april , there starting to slow down
its late december and janurary , during their rut that im felling most vulnerable.......
not that im doing much hunting then , more trout fishing .......

I'm fascinated by snakes, but with a good respect for them.
Most snakes I see ,when I go Fly-Fishing.
In Germany there are all snakes protected (also the ones with two legs:whistle: ).
A fisherfriend of mine gets always in panic, when we see a Kreuzotter (poisonous) or a Ringelnatter (not p. but impressive).
And he demands me to kill them all.But I tell him always, that snakes are elegant and good ones, they kill a lot of rats and something.
But the guy must be a grandchild of Sheridan: " the only good ones I 've seen are dead".

Glad to see the comments about the Lizard. My PH and I were walking through some trees and I front of us were these two at first we thought it was a fight but didn't think they were aggressive took the camera and got the pictures. The bigger one was at least 6 feet long.

Can anyone tell what was going on?
