trouble finding good hunting boots

common now Velo Dog, yer bad habit of skimming over posts is getting the better of you. here:

i didnt just start searching for boots yesterday. ive probably bought and returned about 6 different pairs of boots looking for something that fits properly and is comfortable to walk a great distance in. i always have trouble finding a pair of boots that fit me properly so i usually find one brand/type and stick to it (my current Redwings). this is the first time in maybe a decade that ive tried looking for a new type of boot.

Not sure that reading other people's posts is "skimming" or a bad habit either one but, you're right, sorry I chimed in about the time frame.
I truly apologize.

Have you thought about oakley tactical boots?

I have.....I bought a pair in 2012, best damn boots I have ever owned. Very light and comfy....and silent. Used them twice in Namibia.

I also learned from my wife who I refer to as Imelda for obvious reasons. If your footwear isn't comfortable right away and requires almost no breakin leave them in the store. I just bought a second pair of light weight waterproof hikers with a "flexible sole" to complement my leather hikers. As someone previously mentioned, wear one pair and pack the second. All the PH's where I was wore light hikers

I purchased a pair of Cabela's Air Active Day Hikers a year ago and they have been going strong ever since. I have worn them on a Colorado elk hunt last fall and a deer hunt in Utah, and a javelina hunt in Arizona and came through with flying colors. They are also the boots that I plan on taking to SA this May for my hunts down there.

Look at a pair of Keens. they are a little wider in the toe area

The folks at African sporting creations have the Courtney's. Customer service is great so drop them an email. The boots fit generously so maybe they will work. The only downside is I was told to take a pair of sports sandles for when you expect to submerge your feet eg streams etc because they are all game skin leather. I found traipsing through the woods shed hunting really enjoyable on warmer day. Good luck

Hunting in SA, Courtney Boots hands down. Fowl weather I use Irish Settlers.

Lowa boots are outstanding. Don't require breaking in. Try the desert model, not cheap but worth the money! Used Lowa boots on all 4 African Safaris without any problems or blisters.

I bought a pair of the new Irish Setter Vaprtrek before I went. Wore them every day until launch. No blisters, super light, breathable, waterproof and comfortable. Up and down mountains and rocks no problems. Also won't break the bank.

Matt,

Not sure how available the current US Military desert issue combat boot is for Civilians but, one 7 year Veteran I know well, has mentioned to me in recent years that he liked them very much.
Reportedly they broke-in quickly and lasted well, even though subjected to hard use.

Out,
Velo Dog.

for the last couple months ive been searching for a good pair of hunting boots but have had no luck. its getting to the point where im running out of time before my hunt so im getting a bit desperate. ive tried ordering online but I have very strange feet (short/wide) so its extremely hard to find a pair that fits right. my current boots are Red Wing steel toe boots size 9 1/2 US E3. these boots are very comfortable but are heavy and very loud.

I need a good set of boots for stalking that will be comfortable but wont make too much noise. I also require tall boots to protect my ankles (at least 8"). the most important part is I need to be able to try them on before buying them!

suggestions?

Matt go to Spokane and have white measure your feet and have a pair made for you.
