We became aware of the rediculously high increases in gun TIP fees early in March. See notice published in October 2014 attached.

Despite an opportunity during the annual hunter's meeting in December to inform us of such, it has not been disclosed. Amos was until March, also unaware of this inilateral increase.

I don't know about you but PH's and clients are not prepared to pay almost $1000 for a single Gun TIP, valid for only a short period of time.

Neighbouring countries charge very little, if anything, for TIP's. This is going to be very damaging to Mozambique's image as a preferred eco tourism and hunting destination. We have enough negative things, such as poaching, corruption, ban on Hippo etc. to deal with. We do not need this!

We brought this to AMOS' notice and are awaiting a report back from them.

My best always

As previously discussed Jaco, some in Moz seem bent on destroying versus realizing the potential that their country can be as a top hunting destination.

$1000 to import a rifle. Then pay the $300 on top of that for a service to prepare the paperwork for you.

Holy crap.

Not exactly the kind of help you want from your hunting association.
Last minute notice.

Taking their lead from Zimbabwe. Mid season announce trophy fee increases.

Hope they can take some action and rethink their new fee structure.

This is from Moz police and customs, no paperwork needed the entire process is around a $1000
Adamo is helping us.

I doubt whether it'll work though.
My best.

I thought that $300 was bad enough to get it done.

Is it just a shake down??

It's about $600 and then another $300 odd in import tax

It's ridicoulas!

what about archery equipement , jaco ?

Sounds about what I have in the 375 and scope..........may be another reason to go with a camp rifle.......

Don't forget Tanzania. Either last year or the year before they decided right before the July 1 hunting season opened that you had to be either 16 or 18 to hunt. Fathers were already in the air with their sons when this announcement came out. The Tanzania government didn't understand what the problem was since they made the announcement prior to the season starting.

Then go back to 2007 (I believe) when they jacked trophy fees through the roof as the season started. How can an outfitter deal with something like that.

African countries may not yet be killing the goose that lays the golden egg, but it sure seems they are plucking it really fast.

Jaco, when it rains it pours, Make it difficult in operating your business.

Evidently Mozambique is trying to be come another wealthy hunters club...

One straw at a time, this is making one think if this is really is worth it to look at hunting in Mozambique.

Holy crap, when does this take affect? I don't think I can do this hunt with that much of a charge. I am just a retired winemaker. John

Yikes....

I'd call that a scale tipper for sure.... I'm personally pretty big on using MY rifle. I know it, I'm comfortable with it, and I trust it.

I would still add this in to the overall financial equation and see where it comes out, but I will tell you this. The import gets a price assigned to it of well over $1K. You want to nickel and dime me Moz? Ok....

$1000 bucks is unreal. Hard to afford for the blue collar crowd.

That is really disheartening to hear. I had Moz on the list for buff one day. Now, not sure if it will be worth it. Also, with Zambia starting to open up, it might be a better alternative for my next adventure.

You hit the nail on the head,,, corruption, ,, I guarantee some politician is expecting a fat wallet with this decision.

This is the type of thing that happens when people don't support the association!!! The AMOS AGM in December, I think we were only about 8 members at the meeting and the next day we had meeting with MITUR, ministry of tourism, even less members. I take 8 guns a season up to camp, extra 8k$ is going to hurt.

Can anybody tell me when this will go into affect.John

It was passed in October 2014, unfortunately for us outfitters we already quoted our clients 250$ per gun, so in my case I will take the knock. I spoke to my people in Maputo this afternoon and so far no change.

Thank you for your reply.John

John, if I get any progress on the situation, will post ASAP.
