No experience as yet, but there is a rifle review in issue #138, Sep/Oct 2013, of New Zealand Guns & Hunting, by Nik Maxwell. It seems that quick reloading of the magazine when in the rifle would require a degree of familiarisation and practice with dummy rounds but other than that, he was very happy with it.

If I hear anything useful from my acquaintances I will get back to you.

Just spotted another review 'Hunting with a Mauser M12' by Peter Clark, in NZ Guns # 140 Jan/Feb 2014. Have yet to speak to someone using one. If people want exotic Germanic stuff around here they tend to buy Blaser or Steyr Mannlicher (local importer is only 40 minutes from my house). If I do run into a user I shall try to determine how the reviews compare with long term ownership.

Please keep up the standard of your posts, including the more entertaining contributions.

Gent at the range was considering one. We both looked at it at the gunshop, they had one in 243. Though a beautiful rifle, nice wood, clean lines, deep blueing, a jeweled bolt. However it didn't have the holy grail of an extractor, which is why he didn't buy it. (I could care less)... I do however understand his disappointment, even though I do not live on extractor alone, it's what Mauser is known for. Kinda like a post 64 winchester, the new m12 is just a push feed. A beautiful on though.

scott i am not bothered about contolled feed on smaller calibres either, and have gone for the synthetic stocked extreme http://www.mauser.com/en/products/m12/m12extreme/ in 30-06 as never had that cal and wanted something a bit smaller than the 9.3x62 for finn in zambia........well thats my excuse anyway ;) and it was either that or a sako bavarian in .270 that was in the shop in lusaka, which was very nice also.

Mike, if they shoot as good a they look you should love it, sorry "Finn" should love it. Good luck to ya, keep us posted on how you guys do with it.

My son and I looked at them at the 2014 Dallas convention. I was considering the higher end wood stock model in .270 and he was interested in the "all weather"? model in .308. After the convention I returned home to northwest Florida and was never able to find one. I could have ordered one from Guns International, etc, but wanted to look at them in person again. Two different local gun shops had no idea what I was talking about. A few months prior to this I had bought one of the new FN/Winchesters Super Grades in .264 magnum. The Winchester Super Grade was $1150 plus tax and with the M12 being about $1800, it's hard for me to think it would be a $700 better gun, but I never got to find out for sure!

Sierraone like you I would like to see one and hold it fir sure.

As far as technology goes I like cell phones, GPS, and game cameras, but looking at the Mauser website;
I'd rather have a brand new M-98 than the M-12 or the M-03 ; not sure if there's a cost difference, but if I
was going to shell out that kind of dough, it would be for a 9.3x62 in the M-98:D

Looked at the M98s in Dallas this year. They were around $12000, biggggggggg difference. Very close to the Rigby Big Game! High end wood and all!!!

as sierraone says BIG difference . the M12 is the bottom end ,then the M03, then the 98 in standard and magnum versions. same as you i looked at a 9.3x62 M98, but the price quoted in the uk about 3 years ago from what i can remember was around £8000 or £9000.00 then.......so yup big difference. the Rigby big game starts at £7,787.00 in the uk and i would get the vat off which is 20pcnt , so even out of that choice i know where i would go......;)

For that money ($12,000) :eek:can't you get a decent double rifle ??

Yes, but you can't touch a Rigby double for that.

depends what your definition of a decent double is........;):E Big Grin:

Spike T...Isn't Merkel the only quality manufacturer that makes a good double around $12000. I intentionally don't include Sabatti. Too many bad reviews for several years now.

yup the merkel is a good strong well made working double. its the action that a lot of the american "rigby" doubles were made on.

Take a look at the Heym Professional.

Take a look at the Heym Professional.

they are quite a bit more than $12,000.00 . the best was the offer at vegas for the heym 150th anniversary where i think they were $15,000.00, but only while stock lasted. there were same 2nd heyms on other dealers stands priced just under $3,000.00 more than those new offer ones..........

i picked it up the day before i flew out so didnt get a chance to shoot it , and only just found the photos now.....it comes up perfectly and feels right.
