Is this a fair price for a hunt?

wayne i think $700/750 is the plains game rate in the zim govnt areas, then going up to $1250 or so for buff and plains game, then anything in the $1,800/2,000 per day if its ele, lion, buff etc in the hunt, so $700.00 is about right i would have thought.........

For this much money on a pg hunt there were some posts for a Tanzania Safari here very recently. Those seemed like a much better deal to me. This hunt makes me a bit suspicious. Just my opinion. I would hate for you to get taken advantage of and there is a bit of a smell to some of it.

I think it sounds like the daily fees are in line. However in those wild areas, I think you are unlikely to see all those animals in 10 days much less get them. I could be wrong but if the outfit is confident in their ability to put you in good shooting position to all those, why not a guarantee or at least an 85-90% rebate on untaken trophies?

I would look elsewhere or negotiate to pay for what you take. .. In my opinion and very limited experience, reputable outfits ask for the daily fees up front and trophy fees after you take them.

in zim the "package hunt" is usually for a specific bunch of animals, i.e. plains game for 7 days , sable and plains game for 10 days. buff, sable and plains game 10/12 days. leopard , buff ,plains game and so on up the scale to the ele, lion, leopard , buff and plains game at the top. etc, etc with daily rates , and amount of days required rising in accordance with the different groups. you will pay your daily rate and then only the trophy fees for animals taken. if i have cocked up a bit then hopefully @Martin Pieters will tell me

If you trust this person so explicitly, I don't understand why you would question the price. If the PH is more trustworthy than any other person in the world ... wouldn't that include providing a fair price?

I think by posting this question, you already know that this hunt is fishy or over priced or both. My advice is to have a clear division between day fees and trophy fees. A reputable outfitter sets his day fees to cover his operating costs. He has too provide you with a quality animal and hunt to earn trophy fees. Otherwise, where's the incentive...

I'm not sure its reasonable or fair to ask this type of question, generally, but particularly in case like this where some very important details are kept "secret."

People need to do their own research, and make a decision on price based on what matters to them. You will generally pay more for deluxe accommodations, obviously, and you will generally pay extra for places with superior animals (or put another way, you may (should) pay less for areas which don't have top quality animals).

And then there's the country comparison. Namibia tends to the South African model - lower day rates, and higher trophy fees, while Zimbabwe tends towards the higher day rates and lower trophy fees. For example, last summer I paid less than half the trophy fee in Zim for a giraffe than I paid in South Africa, but I don't think I got ripped off in South Africa.

There are lots of factors that go into the cost of a hunt, and without knowing all of the details, I for one won't be offering an opinion that something sounds cheap or accusing someone of over-charging.

I'm with Gizmo and Action Bob on this one. Fishy is the right word. However, everyone seems good with day rates just not the no refund if you do not get the trophy. That package is a lot of animals which would be difficult to accomplish In A high fence concession much less free range.

Looking at the list of animals and using RSA/Namibia type pricing it looks more like $15-$18,000. Just my personal take on it. Bruce

Exactly, what the typical difference in PG DG rates. Give or take.

Only difference with this PH is I can find him as he turns up near me often. The issue I have isn't that I can't trust him, it's that he caters to multimillionaires and certainly gets the goods when it comes to trophys. I just can't determine if I'm getting a fair price or a chump price because he caters so much to the affluent. (I'm not affluent, this is my only Africa trip for 5 years minimum)

Is he cutting his rate to a PG rate or am I paying for the leopard and elephant rates and not hunting either? (It appears from the responses that his daily rate of $800 is high side of PG)

Assuming you are in Zim the day rate is fair, but if he gets the goods so well then why won't he refund trophy fees? Sure doesn't seem to be any risk to him.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think if you fully and totally trusted him you wouldn't have asked the initial question. And knowing where you can find him doesn't mean much to me as neighbors make bad deals with neighbors all the time.

Good luck if you decide to do it, but it doesn't feel right to me.
