Hunted
North America. South Africa
Hello all. Something tells me I'm in the right place. I was told to come to this site to get advice about my upcoming trip to South Africa. My name is Jody, and I'm about to take a trip to Nitro safari in SA. This will be my first trip to Africa and I'll admit I have no idea what I signed up for. I'm a little nervous about traveling there by myself. No one else was able to make it and I've decided if I wait for others I may never make it there. I have plenty of questions that I would like to ask the- been there done that- crowd.

I will be.bowhunting out of Kimberley this July. My wish list consists of a kudu, gemsbok, blue wildebeest, Impala blesbok and springbok. When I'm not hunting I hope to be photographing as much as possible.

Should I trust what they are telling me about not needing any shots?

Anything to watch out for in jo-burgh or Kimberly airport?

I've been able to get a lot of answers from the outfitter and booking agent. The one thing that I'm getting nowhere with is importation brokers as far as an estimate cost. I was hoping one of you might be able to give me some Input. As I said I'm planning on shipping six hides and horns back to Pittsburgh. I have the prices for the dip and pack, but have not been able to get an idea of what it will cost from there??? Shipping and brokerage fees.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

My apologies for the long post. As you can imagine I'm getting a little amped up for this trip. This will be as far from my Pennsylvania deer woods as I've ever been.

well welcome and get ready to have a lot of fun. Since you are only taking a bow the airports are easy to get around in since you have no gun to check in. You will not need any shots for your trip.

As for getting your stuff back to Pa. With it being just hides and skulls for that group of animals I would say around 1200 to 1400 by air.

Have a great trip and be ready to have more fun then you ever thought possible hunting

The Adventure begins!!! Good luck and good hunting. Don't forget to post a report when you get back.

Welcome to AH Jody!

Welcome!

Don't be nervous about the travel. Piece of cake!

Read a lot here and keep asking questions. For importing you might give SSI a holler.

Ask and learn.

I would see a medical dr., but I would recommend a tetanus shot and hepatitis A (just in case you forget drink untreated water).

Welcome to the site.

Hi Jody and welcome. Get ready to become addicted to hunting in Africa! You will have a greAt time.
I think Billc is about right on the costs.

Welcome to AH Jody! I think Billc is in the ball park for shipping cost, I use my own Customs Broker in Atlanta for all my imports all said and done her fees are under $250 I understand Coppersmith custom fees run around $500+. We also have a sponsor here on AH that may be able to give you better answers send him an email or call him.

Bring your camera everywhere and use it.

Go to a travel clinic and ask a doctor for a consult. Health is about as personal and specific as it gets.

On top of the suggestions already made for brokerage, get another quote from Safari Cargo Systems on shipping.
Tell them the critters and they'll estimate for you.

Keep reading and you'll learn plenty.

Welcome to AH.

Hello and welcome Jody. I'm sure you will have the time of your life! No worries on the travel and good on ya for grabbing the bull by the horns and booking a solo trip on your first go 'round (y)
Hopefully we'll be reading your hunt report one of these days :)

Welcome to the best forum on the web @Jody

Time when the travel butterflies are kicking in... You will enjoy each and every moment of your safari and it all begins the moment you step foot on African Soil.

You surely do not need any shots, as (if I understand you correctly) there is no diseases such as Ebola in that areas. Stay away from strangers and avoid physical contact. You will be safe at camps and wherever your PH takes you. A tip would be to take some shots such as Vitamin B and Complex to increase tolerance and immune levels against colds and flu's.

If you need any further information, be sure to contact your Outfitter and ask specific questions.

Take care and be sure to post lots of pictures and a report afterwards.

Yours cordially,

Welcome to AH, Jody !

I want to thank Phoenix Phill and Royal27 for the support.
