South Africa, or Namibia are popular 1st time safari destinations. What appeals to you most.....smaller high fenced game farms (this is the usual norm for South Africa), or larger, often unfenced (except for normal cattle fencing) large tracts of land? I'd figure out exactly where I wanted to go first, then start doing the due diligence.
 
I would be happy to help if you are interested in Zambia. We have a wide range of interesting species. You can contact me - I have guided several father (rifle) / son(bow) safaris. Would be glad to help.
