Lion Taxidermy Pictures

You gotta love that...

Yup wes does some great work and does not over due all the wrong detail of muscle tone in a lion. One of the best all round studios in the united states.

Bill, I know Wes and his company does some really nice work.
Muscle detail more or less "IS" the clients request or non-rquest.
Every trophy has a personal blueprint used for each one from material offered by us or the client. Likes and dislikes are the clients choice always. Some want more muscle some less . I send pictures to each client for them to see the form and mannikin before the skin is put on to get approval. Like this and then after the skin is placed for them to help in getting their look right. Open the eyes more or less more detail or less. Every mount is a combination of their LOOK and the hands sculpting the form and placing the skin. This was sent last week for approval then the skin was placed and mounted, then the look the client wanted was detailed.

Just this last week.....

First email pics for pose approval.....

beautiful Dennis.... Glad to have you doing mine.... Maybe soon.

I agree the client may ask for more or less. Hell with my stuff at relive right now I did that because I like the detail he did back in his early work in like 2011 and 2012 then now. So I will get a happy medium between the two. I just think there is a fine line with to much or not enough.

I don't like even when I see ever nose or ear is painted the same as lets just say ever kudu has different colors on them.

I myself just see way to many guys doing what some see as better work with detail that does not really look like the animal in the wild. Guys have pushed the muscle tone over the top in my eyes and guys think it is what animals really look like after seeing all the nice mounts a the shows. They do the hunt don't even notice animals don't have that kind of muscle tone and come back and get stuff mounted like they picture in there head. Is the client wrong no because it is his trophy but I think if some would start saying that is not right guys would really see thing different.

those two new lions you are doing look very nice looking forward to seeing the finished pictures to see the start to end.

Agree with you Bill. I've worked for Mike Boyce at Animal Artistry and a lot of mounts are and were very heavy muscled.
That's his and their style. I can match that style since I've done that type of work. Some like it others don't . We have to be versatile and do what the client wishes. Art in taxidermy is just like wine and woman each has his or hers own tastes and expectations. The good taxidermists can make the mount exactly as the client wants, for IT is their trophy. Your right.

Bill , wait a few weeks and they will truly be finished, nothing has been painted or rebuilt yet, Glad you like them.

what is the rebuilt part you talk about.

The soft tissue eyelids have to be rebuilt to fullness of a live lion, The inner nose septum, and nasal plane ( planum nasale ) and naras (nostril ) cavity, the filtrum ( the groove in the upper lip and nose ) and the tear ducts, and nose wings, and the lower lip.

Ok that's what I thought but was not sure.

Here's some from Cabela's in Richfield WI:

All of these mounts!!! :E Shocked::E Shocked: Awesome stuff

i dont know about the tec stuff and dont care.what i want is a resemblance of what i thought i saw and felt at the time of the kill.when i look at my lion i feel like i am back in africa and she is coming my way.this is what i remember her face looked like as she was looking at us.the prey scene has nothing to do with what was going on at the time of the shot.i had shot the steenbuck with to big a caliber and had to use it this way to display it.

Wow. I love that lion. So majestic.

here is another one I like a lot. Mount with great habitat work which so many can't do right.

Great thread. Lots of fantastic photos here. I left my lioness that I recently hunted until next year to be mounted ... hoping for a spotted hyena to put together with it next time I am over. In the meantime lots of great ideas here!
