Kudu - Namibia or Limpopo?

Oh yea, Kowas does not charge by the inch and thank goodness they do not charge by the number of hills that you climb to get their kudus:)

It just is because the land is more suited for raising game than raising crops and cattle. Namibia is little populated, bigger more open areas. Not that the hunting is bad in RSA, because it isn't...it's just different. You can't compare hunting kudu in Namibia to hunting kudu in the East Cape or the Limpopo. They are all great experiences just...everyone is different in wonderful ways. I like hunting kudu anywhere, especially if its thick or hilly.
 
I reckon certain areas the hunting is exactly the same it varies on size of property and terrain, both SA and Namibia can have equally rewarding and fair chase experiences,,,, it depends on outfitters you compare.

As for pricing Namibia has increased significantly over the last couple of years as well.

If you pick the right outfit you'll be happy.

wayne reason for that could be lesser kudu are only on a 21 day licence in tanzania as far as i know. or possibly 14days still expensive with the daily rates there.

Hi, I think you got some pretty good info here. I have seen good kudu bulls all over in Namibia. The biggest Kudu I have ever seen was in the Kaokoland Concession Areas. It is a tough hunt but you can get lucky with over 55 inch. The khomas hochland and northern Namibia is also very good for Kudu. The trophy fees range from 850 U$ up to 2000 U$.

GREAT question Tex84 (interpretation, I have been wondering the same thing)! I took two great Eastern Cape kudu last summer with Blaauwkrantz safaris which leaves a greater southern kudu at the top of my wish list for the next safari. Ever-the-optimist ... I am thinking kudu, cape eland, gemsbuck, blue wildebeest in Namibia or kudu, Livingstone eland, and limpopo bushbuck in Limpopo.

I am guessing you are also in Texas, so I think the solution to both of our problems is a 2 X 1 hunt in 2017 in Namibia and a 2 X 1 hunt in Limpopo in 2019 ... we can apply the 2 X 1 savings to a couple of extra days or an extra animal :)!

And to whet your appetite, here are my two kudu from last year!

Hi Guys!

I'm from Namibia and I can surely tell you that there are BIG Kudu bulls here... What I can tell you is that getting a 55+ incher is definitely not a walk in the park. If lady luck smiles on you.... that's a different story.

Kowas Hunting Safaris is situated 140km south-east of Windhoek near Dordabis which is hands-down one of the best Kudu hunting areas in Namibia. We have 17 000 acres high-fenced areas and then we hunt on 400 000 acres of continuous low-fenced area around us where we have the sole hunting rights to. Now, our BIG Kudu bulls, we tend to get in that 400 000 acres of free range area. We hunt about +- 25 Kudu bulls a year in this area, and we managed to maintain an average of between 52-53 inches (on the longest horn) for 15 years now. Our biggest bulls being over and around the 60 inch mark every year...

One thing I would like to mention...
Keep in mind this is my OWN OPINION... A lot of folks think that hunting the Kudu bulls in the rut (during may/june) is the best. Yes, it's true. You will see more Kudu bulls and will have a bigger variety to choose from. My opinion on the other hand... If you want a big, old, mature Kudu bull hunt them towards the end of the year. Somewhere around September/August. My biggest Kudu bulls that I have shot with clients have always been that time of year... Just my opinion.

Difficult to make a choise between the 2 countries because I am sure you can get GOOD kudus in both countries. My personal opinion is that the open spaces in Namibia give you a good chance on better quility. The hunting areas in Namibia is big, free range and natural habitat. The game is not feeded with extra hormone feeding. In Namibia you pay the same price for different lenght of horns ... which is not always so in South Africa.

Namibia also has operations that works on the sliding scale for horn lengths. Not only South Africa.
