Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share this wonderful image with the safari hunting community. I captured this photo of a Damara Dik-Dik in Namibia [Otjikoko Region] while hunting PG with my son in 2008 on the last day of my hunt. I was really happy with the images I acquired while shooting a new Canon XTi 70-200/F4 + 1.4/TC gear. I had only learned photography 8 weeks prior to my hunt, so getting this quality image was quite a pay-off for all the hard work. I really would like to hunt RSA with a quality outfitter as Spiral Horn Safaris as there is not a day that goes by that I don't dream of returning once again and be mesmerized by the enchantment of a land of beauty!

Kind regards,

Roland

These images were taken on that PG Safari too...
We were driving a riverine and came around the bend...and we surprised a herd of maybe 12 Oryx lying down and basking in the sun...This is the first and last shot of a seven-shot sequence of this particular buck as they took off hard and fast...LOL

At this point I already had my two Oryx in the salt...so this one got the Canon instead of the M98 shooting 180gr Partitions....

I appreciate your comments on my photos a lot!...As I mentioned I only learned how to shoot a camera 8 weeks prior to my hunt and worked hard trying to learn to operate the camera with some proficiency...I have these images enlarged and framed....I was very impressed with the quality of these images...I'm glad that you have enjoyed them too!

Aloha!

That is very excellent photo!

BTW, this image was captured by total surprise!
We were driving along a two-track for an hour or so and not seeing much game...I removed my cap and was wiping my brow, and at the corner of my eye I saw something leap in the bush...I asked my tracker/driver to stop and as we looked we saw it was this Dik-Dik along with its mate trying to hide from us...we slowly crept forward in the bakkie and it never moved as I believe he thought we didn't see him...nontheless we got within 40 ft and I let a few bursts go off from the Canon's shutter ...This was the best image of them all and I've been very proud of this particular photo as an excellent representation of all the images I've taken...I think it would make a great COVER SHOT someday along with the Gemsbok action shots!

The next time I hunt Africa I will be sure to spend MORE time in the field shooting photos as I've become a true wildlife photography FANATIC...I hope I may get that chance with Louis...but I realize there have been so many fine photos posted by our members and the competition is high...

I wish myself and everyone here GOOD LUCK!

I appreciate your comments and hope others here will enjoy them too!

Aloha!

Here are a few more pics from Namibia 2008...

This was the only time I saw any Oryx not RUNNING away...as they say you see them by the herds when you don't have your rifle...LOL

My Damara tracker/driver Immanuel...one evening we went out for a ride in the bush, we walked up to the crest of a small hill and I took a few shots of this spectacular sunset...then I asked Immanuel to stand with his arms outstretched and high still with the setting sun at his back and I positioned myself so that it would seem the sun was emanating out from him...Then I blended the two images in post-processing.
I call this shot, "The Resurrection of Immanuel's Kingdom"....

This next image is Mt.Etjo Plateau as seen from the landowner's 165,000 acre property in Omaruru. I made the decision to create a painted-like photograph with this image using a digital paintbrush in post processing. I worked on every aspect of the image except Mt. Etjo itself and left it in its natural state... I hope you enjoy it!

I shot this Oryx on day 5 of my hunt...My first Oryx was a 40 inch monster taken of day 3...Still this one is a good bull in my books...LOL
I LOVE hunting these animals as they are smart and take a bullet well....This is somewhat of a surreal TROPHY SHOT because I used the same post-processing techniques only to the background of this photo...I do have the original and like it, but I thought this was kind of COOL as well as it worked with this particular shot...I found it intriguingly peculiar to accomplish!

The Brazilian Red Head Cardinal are certainly beautiful birds to photograph...They are my favorite bird by far...we do have the North American Red Cardinal as well...but the Brazil Card is much more interesting to shoot imho and much more difficult!!!

Juvenile Java Rice Bird coming into his own...LOL

Barred-Dove taking a quick snooze...

Mom Sparrow feeding her young chick...

I hope you enjoy the images as much as I had photographing them!

Africa with slugs

I went to Africa last May on my first safari with Rem 870 and Accutip slugs. It was wonderful and successful. I think the gray ghost was the most special. I can't wait to do ot again, and with a slug gun.

I really like this picture too! Very luck to have captured the moment in time on film!

Thank you, yes it was a flash in time I'll never forget, and sums up the feelings of hunting Africa perfectly for me. Fortunately, we caught it on film too, hopefully the photo lets others share that feeling.
